Ahh good, so the common sense side of things then xxx

As for the equality act, many parts of it are because of EU legislation and while there is no guarantee that it would be changed if we left, the whole argument of those muppets who want to leave is that they do not like the EU regulations and it would seem logical that over time these things would go.

        Does that make sense?
Yep perfectly. I just can't understand why losing the protection ( and it is in many ways) of the EU can be a good thing. The EU are a lot stronger on fairness and equality and to lose that influence ( directive) would be a backward step.

I think people might still be obsessed with mythical bendy bananas.

The jury's out on that one, but still I cannot see the benefit for the average Joe public except for poor migrant EU citizens....it just seems to me be an institution for the boys, jobs for the boys, so to speak. Commercial drivers have to do a certificate of competence (Driver CPC) every 5 years but they cannot fail as long as they show up for it based on an EU Directive.

                Well Wales your sound reasoning has changed my mind completely a couple of times before so I am reading your comments with interest. There are arguments for and against and I just happen to be against leaving for reasons I argue frequently. (Ad nauseam some might say!) One thing I would like to say loud and clear is this;
We are lucky we live in a country where we are not only asked our opinion but can air it freely and one would hope without fear of ridicule.

It is possible and even probable that we have cheaper access to loans as a member of the EU because should we go belly up we have our trading partners to bail us out. It wouldn't take much of an increase in interest rates to wipe out anything
Countries only bail each other out if there is some gain for them. Take Iraq, the International Monetary Fund, World bank largely controlled by the USA, loaned Iraq money....but would it have done if it didn't have one of the world's main supply of oil, as prior to Iraq was state owned (subsidies) and state independent until the war. If it were not for the NATO action it's unlikely there would have been an ISIS or the Arab Springs which indirectly related to US' foreign policy, economics.

Ah, I forgot about the straight (or was it too bendy) banana. There was also some rubbish about the shape of Cucumbers – I wonder if Kelly’s Veg conforms! :tung:

Am still wanting to be convinced that staying in the EU rather than getting out is beneficial to us. You're not convincing me apart from convincing me that perhaps I need the timetable for the bus that Kati and Wales are getting

When the UK voted YES in a referendum in the 1970's, how long did it take to join? Why would it take 7 years to leave?
At the moment, borders are starting to go up again within the EU with suspension of Schengen agreements(Belgium appear to be doing this).

Convince me to stay in the EU.....

The 7 years was a figure given to me based apparently on the length of time it would take to renegotiate the treaties by which the EU was formed along with the separation of the political processes

Indeed countries do want something out if it when they bail others out just as people have something to gain whenever they help others -even if that is just feeling better about themselves

There is not however always immediate tangible gains when a country helps others, it could be an increase in international prestige or the spread of their culture. Of course with the U.S. the spread of their culture helps their economy because the citizens of the aided country suddenly 'buy' into McDonalds or Coca cola

This is my point about countries they're being run like businesses and the EU as an affective institution is no exception. If we were to consider all the relevant countries in the EU, all 28, assuming they're paying £20 billion a year the annual subscription for EU membership is 0.56 trillion or 560 billion. I wonder how many countries' economies this would be compared to? Where is all this money going, or more likely, which whomever/s? Where there were transparency in terms of an itemised monetary list, I would hazard a guess and say that the EU institution would likely make the UK's utility fat cats look like an Indian or African community living in abject poverty. I'd say the EU makes many bureaucrats millionaires, the EU is simply an ole boys' club - a very sophisticated one. We have not even mentioned democracy yet, as when was the last time you voted an EU official in, I do not mean the European Parliament who in effect have no power whatsoever. Research the 3 main institutions of the EU..the European Parliament (ie you EU Minister) does not even come close. We instead have businessmen telling us the virtues that the EU offers, which to me is like the American war machine (military industrial complex) looking for business opportunities and then telling the world it's about democracy and freeing people from slavery. No, it is about business and democracy is a fortuitous consequence.

I voted OUT we are propping up alot of Europe now who cannot even afford to stay in and we are now paying more as a result. we should become a great nation again i agree it will take a while as we have lost alot by joining the EU but we are true Brits and should believe in ourselves and our ability to become a great independant nation again it can be done.
Dont like all the decisions made on our behalf in some court somewhere in never never land that we dont even seem to have a clue what it is about and no control over what so ever. I do think however, that there will be some drawbacks and i am aware of the scare mongering by certain parties who are only covering their own back about what will happen if we leave the EU.
We want facts before we can decide not propaganda.
