      England 0 Algeria 0

So that means England must beat Slovakia to qualify cos on goals scored, USA are ahead of England in 2nd place.

Rooney was injured, Heskey...ahhh well, and I sleep safe in the knowledge that Germany lost and missed a penalty in case we get through in 2nd place

Well, beating Slovakia will not do you any good as its Slovenia you're playing next!! I don't think the team gave the opposition any respect either sadly as clearly, before the tournament started, England were paraded as favourites to qualify, but they did not know who they were playing against.

What you're seeing is effectively a combination of lack of motivation, imagination and team work, combined with individual talent disappearing- from a bunch of hugely paid professionals. Unfortunately, I also think there was a distinct lack of awareness of the strengths and weaknesses of the opposition team.

One of the commentators after the game said along the lines of "well no-one wants to win it more than we do". That is not true as can be seen by the commitment shown by other teams.

The recriminations are now starting and the clamour for heads to roll is not far off. How long before another Sun front page caricature.

History is repeating itself- hence the boos at the end of the game. Having said all that, they could still get through to the next round so all is not lost, but lessons need to be learnt- all round.

As are Germany in their group, as are Italy in their group, as are Spain in their Group, etc, etc, based on FIFA rankings. I do tend to get Slovenia and Slovakia mixed up, lol.

To be blunt, ultimately it's the team on the pitch not playing as a team. Not sure I would have Heskey playing to be honest, and Rooney was injured imho. There will have to be one enforced change next match cos Carragher is suspended(don't agree with his inclusion anyway).

Most of the commentary on ITV1 last night was full of crap. In fact, I wasn't sure if I wanted to punch the TV or the mute the sound.

Well, let's see what happens on Wednesday first cos that is the game that now counts.

Well, history is repeating itself cos in the 1986 World cup England needed to win their last match to qualify and, apart from Argentina, currently, almost all the teams in the Tournament have to win their last game to stand a chance of qualifying for the next round. The World Cup is not as it used to be, ie that you knew who would qualify for the second round before any games kicked off.

I hope the fan who got into the England changing room does have the desired effect on the team.

                        Japan 0 Netherlands 1

Netherlands almost certainly through to the next round after two wins.

                          Australia 1 Ghana 1

Harry Kewell sent off for handball on the line and Ghana scored the resultant penalty.
Both teams can still qualify albeit Ghana will need to not lose against Germany

                                Great result for the Kiwis

However, if we think we have discontent in the camp then we have nothing on France who have sent home Nicholas Anelka and their fitness trainer has quit and the team refused to train today.
