Re: Credit Crunch Christmas (43 days)

When I was paying a mortgage I was entitled to a payment break once a year and i used to take this in November and use the money towards Christmas. I know it costed more in the long run really but was only way I could work out how to do it then.

I've got quite a few females to buy prezzies for so when I buy stuff in Boots throughout the year, I always save my advantage card points until Oct/Nov time and buy the giftsets with my points when they bring in the 3 for 2 offer.....can save about £20/£25 quid that way, and it doesn't cost me a penny cos my points cover it

From Martin Lewis site. I'm sure he would approve of me spreading his word.

Iceland frozen foods offers a £1 bonus stamp at the £29 and £49 levels (thus you get £2 per £49) which can be redeemed at any time.

The disadvantage is Iceland’s stamps need to be purchased from a dispenser and stuck on by hand. Yet the scheme runs all year round, so whenever you shop in Iceland and spend over £29 you can save money.
              -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Asda Christmas Savings Card is one of the easiest to operate as it's an electronic scheme. Simply pick up a card in store and pay into the account at any till.

On 17 Nov, those with £49 to £96 get £1 bonus; those with £97 to £143 gain £3; and those with £144 get £6. There’s no limit to the amount of cards you can have so simply load up in denominations of £144, by 16 Nov at the latest, to max out the bonus.
              -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Somerfields stamp scheme could pay £3 for every £47 saved, yet the first £1 bonus is only given if you’ve collected £29 by 30 April.

The remaining £2 bonus is paid when you redeem the stamps, providing you’ve accumulated £48 and spend it between 11 Nov and 31 Dec. The full amount on each card must be redeemed in one transaction.
              --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Wilkinsons has a savings stamps scheme that generously offers £1 for every £19 saved. It does require you to provide details such as name, address and signature, though you can opt out from receiving any marketing.

Stamps can be purchased in denominations of £1 at the checkout. Cards can be redeemed at any time, though it must be in full and in one transaction. There’s no limit to the amount of cards you can have so simply stock up in denominations of £19 if you want to spend a lot.
              ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Woolworths has an incentive that dishes out a bonus dependent on several levels of savings; £1 at £49, £3 at £97, £6 at £144 or £10 at £240. It checks your funds on 5 Nov and pays out a week later, on the 12 Nov, allowing you to redeem the funds any time after that.

If you’re a woollies fanatic and decide to save £100s, don’t do it all on one card. You can save up to £500 per piece of plastic, but as the maximum payout is £10 once you reach £240, you’d be better off saving on a new card to receive an additional bonus.
              ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Morrisons pays out £3 if £97 is saved. One stamp is awarded immediately when you hit £49 and two more at £98.

Stamps are available from dispensers in store and can be redeemed any time, all year round but the bonus can only be spent in November or December so wait until then.
              ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Tesco runs an old fashioned saving stamps scheme. Collect £49 on your card and you’ll get an extra £1 when you spend this any time throughout December.
Borrow money from a pessimist -- they don't expect it back.

It's that time of year... winter is creeping in and before we know it, Christmas will be upon us! But don't worry, as Tesco is here to help you start preparing and spend less. Come in store this week and you'll find our entire range of Christmas trees and lights at half price. Plus with our £3 Jacobs Creek wine offer, you could stock up for your Christmas lunch too!

I am a bit like that as well as my daughters birthday is on the 14th Dec - so usually we put tree up after that. But as the kids are older now they can do it earlier if they do it themselves. It only seems like a few weeks ago we were packing it all away!

Morrisons latest offer this is a description of the add that's on tv at the moment.

Nick Hancock pushes his supermarket trolley past a Christmas card snow scene and explains the latest Morrisons offer. He advises that receipts from spending £40 per week until 14th December can be exchanged for a £20 voucher, which can be redeemed on the next spend of £40 between 15th and 24th December. He suggest that you could even use it to get Christmas dinner for free, as a traditional table layout is shown on screen.

That's ok for me, I do Morrisons everyweek so that will come in handy.

If you pay direct debit for your utilities, check whether you are in credit with them, and if so ask for it to be returned. I just got £110 back form my electricity supplier, so that will come in handy for xmas.
This is the second time i have done this and the supplier is fine with doing it, they were the ones who suggested it to me last time.

Well I did Morrisons yesterday, I would have been nearer the £40 needed mark instead of the near £80 if I hadn't have put me rum in lol.
Anyways offer starts, 10th Nov to 14th Dec collect 4 receipts and swap them for a £20 voucher. That's 2 more bottles of rum, stuff the turkey lol
Then I went next door to Aldi and don't knock it to me, my pots come out clean and so does my washing without being ripped off for the dearer stuff.
Also my dog likes their brand of food so thats great for me she wouldn't eat chum and the like.
I got a pineapple for 69p and i know what to do with that. I bought a butternut squash also for 69p, now I was going to put it in my soup today but changed my mind. So what can i do with it? never done one before.

Have the butternut squash with your Sunday lunch tomorrow. Roast it, Obviously peel it first and cut the seeds out!
