Footballers are there to be role models
Have you nicked all Enaids rum ?

Footballers are there to play football and if the club are lucky make them some money and win a few competitions.

If footballers are there to be role models then make no wonder they've become rapists because historically many of them would shag the barbers floor.

There are many more complete tossers in football than almost any industry including banks and politics.

On the vigilante angle, there was a story on the news this evening about some Dad's who pretended to be 10 year old girls online and the result was a 50 yr old man was arrested after showing up to meet what he though was a 10 year old girl in a car park.

The police were saying it was a bad thing. But surely it got someone who was intending on committing offences against children off the street ?

( will see if I can find the story )

Re: Should Ched Evans be allowed to play football after sentence for rape?

Convicted or otherwise, if he genuinely believes he did not rape why would we expect him to offer a (cynical) apology?
Conviction doesn't mean a person feels guilty.

Much is talked about "public opinion", or is this really a minority that are very vocal.(The change.org petition has managed only 161,632 signatures out of UK population of 64,000,000)
I haven't heard anyone discussing the matter. The only time I hear about it is when it's mentioned on the news, or change .org ask me to sign (I've resisted the temptation)
I don't think the majority are bothered either way.

My own opinion is that he served his sentence, we don't have lynch law in the UK so why should he be punished more than the law requires?
What evidence is there to say that young people will actually regard him as a role model that it is acceptable to rape (which seems to be the main argument to prevent him restarting his career)

I've got two articles which have opposite viewpoints. The first is from End Violence Against Woman Coalition
              http://www.endviolenceagainstwomen.o...effield-united

The other is from The Telegraph Opinion by Allison Pearson: http://www.endviolenceagainstwomen.o...effield-united

I think hes had a rough ride. Hes done his sentance and should not be persecuted by the papers. I imagine he will be on a register for some time due to the offence he commited.

am not in anyway comenting on his offence. I just think when someones always proclaimed there innocence. And have done thrre time and compy with any licence conditions. That they should be alawed to start again and not be perecuted. He never admitted it.

There is the case that he is role model to young boys. But he didn't ask to be, he's had that thrust on him. When he left school he just wanted to play football.

The sentence he received, lenient or not, was handed down by the judge. He's served his time and that should be the end of it.

Any decent legal system (which balances both the rights of the victim to justice and the offender to rehabilitate themselves) will produce outcomes that some will find unfair. This is clearly such a case.

There is no doubt in my mind that he should be allowed to ply his former trade to any club willing to pay for it. He's going to get a very uncomfortable ride if he does return to football - and so will his employers - but, arguably, better that he gets back to productive employment and hopefully shows some contrition and maturity eventually, than reverts to a life of crime (a clear probability if he is denied employment).

Anything else in this case - no matter how distasteful it may seem - would be acquiescence to the court of public opinion.

I'm just curious. does that mean he won't be allowed to have any contact with ball boys and girls, with youth groups and any vulnerable persons? Surely he has to do "Disclosure" CRB, checks to be in contact with these groups and as a sex offender he won't be allowed to. So how does the football team manage that?

As he isn't a convicted paedo i doubt it. His license won't have that kind of restriction.

I do think it's odd that the mate who "procured" the victim and had it off with her first was found not guilty in view of the court's decision that she had no capacity to consent therefore CE is a rapist. Not defending him, btw.
