Banks and building societies employed educated people. They did well.

Alan Sugar & Richard Branson should've went to university. In fact Alan Sugar has admitted to being on benefits, must be because he isn't educated enough.

Did you know ... anyone employed by the dwp has to have a degree?! 2 of my mates applied for a job as an advisor, 1 got told he wasn't eligible because he didn't have a degree - when he asked what degree he had to hold, he was told that it didn't matter

I have had a worrying afternoon. Been out with my ex and she has shown me a demand for council tax that her local authorities have sent her. For complex reasons she is unable to get a bank account so the pay online, pay over the phone and direct debit methods are out. They do not supply a Giro slip so to pay at a counter you are supposed to get a plastic card (allpay I think) which will carry your details to enable payment at the post office and such places. Forgetting the fact that she has been to the council offices countless times they cannot except payment without this card yet in 8 months they haven't issued one despite much pleading with them. I have only just found this out when I have seen how much they are chasing for. Now I am worried because there are the people who pay and those that want to live for free and so should be punished. She hasn't paid so do you reckon she will get away with being birched, the workhouse or is it the gallows?
I live between Oxford and Swindon so I know both the mini plants and Honda plants well enough and certainly there impact upon the areas. People who don't know the areas wouldn't believe how different they are considering how close they are. The Honda plant has been yo-yoing between employing and laying off staff and increasing and slowing down production for a while know which as led to a certain amount of instability in the area because of the amount of other businesses that trade with/because of them. In some areas of Swindon you will pay around £150,000 for a house of a similar age and style that you would pay £265,000-£300,000 for in Oxford. In oxford they will except nearer London rates for o trade like mine yet in Swindon its a long way short. When I worked for an Oxford based firm I was looking for a change and had an interview with a Swindon based firm. I had to explain to the Swindon firm that if I excepted their offer I would have surely failed the aptitude test. They asked me to explain why so I told them that I couldn't be that intelligent if I left the Oxford firm (£26,000 salary) for them (£19,000) when the terms, conditions and travelling where all on a par. Even though I understand that there might not be a need for people to do mundane jobs there are mundane jobs that have to be done, thankfully we have hard working immigrants entering the country to do them for us.

              You're kidding right?

Any 2 bit outfit can collect debts 'efficiently'. There are any number of them talked about on this forum and in less than glowing terms.

I take it you don't read Private Eye then? As a private sector provider of public services Capita (or more accurately Crapita) have been an unparalleled disaster on every level.

And so much for generating taxable profits. Crapita stated in the last tax year that ''due to significant investment in the UK to maintain our business here as well as pension contributions, we did not make enough profit last year to qualify for Corporation Tax''.

And, despite all that, they were able to deliver a better service than the BBC could do for itself, or the Post Office could do.
That's a major difference between Private and Public Sector organisations.
Don't like Capita? Find a competitor.
Live in Stafford and don't like your local National Death Service hospital? Tough. Where else will you go? Straight back to another NHS / NDS hole.

Some of us may not have been here but for The NHS you seem to despise if we could all go private I think we would.

IMO all the parties and all the politicians are just a bunch of good talkers backed by the Banks The Unions or whoever are their paymasters, Those who are not prey to the corrupt world of political donations a very few and as such will never have too much say in the running of the Country.

Its not the NHS its the people running it many of whom are on huge salaries no doubt supporting many of them supporting the one political party that seems to want to destroy it .

Like the big companies the NHS has become to big but as its the one decent thing this country has its about time it was sorted.

You highlight the BBC a good example of a Corporation run for its own ends where there are managers on hundreds of thousands a year in safe jobs funded by the rest of us who have NO say in it we cannot go elsewhere with our money its nicely tied up legally Pay a licence or a fine unless you have no TV
