• Dwf and credit score

Had the most embarrassing day of my life. Went out shopping with my kids. They were unwell as well as not easy. We left an item worth 6£ in our basket. No police were called but i have been ashamed picture taken of me. Details from my d. licence. Did not have to sign anything. Banned from all tescos forever. And should expect a letter about a payment to dwf i guess or rlp. The guy said from 80£ to hundreds. Read some topics here already.... They told me if i do not pay in 28days they will get a warrant and take me from my home. It is very embarrassing for me, as my husband is an officer. He knows there is no trouble for me from criminal side of the things as it was not intentional. So im not sure whether to ignore it or what to do. Also how does it affect my credit score if i don't pay and they keep threatening me. Also have a loan and credit card with tesco. Its so embarrassing. My daughters were crying there. Didn't even read the paper they were trying to give me.
Thank you for your help and advice

Hi

So no actual letters from any civil recovery scamsters yet?

Not yet. But as i have some issues and on medication for it, i am trying to plan ahead. So at least my little malfunctioning brain won't freak out all the way until i get one...

Forewarned is forearmed, as 'they' say!

One of them, RLP, was given a good spanking in an Oxford court.
Not only did they lose, they were refused permission to appeal.
To my best knowledge they have not tried to argue their case in a court hearing since then.
Maybe des8 has more info.

Re: Dwf and credit score

DWF are a little more scary than our "friends" at RLP, in that they are a proper law firm.
However much they threaten however, I have not been able to find a single case where their clients have initiated court action.
DWF can't sue you... only the retailer can do this, and nowadays this is extremely rare due to the costs involved (even if they win) and the adverse publicity it generates).
RLP haven't advised a client to trycourt since they lost spectacularly in 2012.

You can expect around 5 letters requesting a donation, all tied up in legalese with threats about court action and the affect it might have on your credit record.
Ignore them all unless you ever actually receive proper court papers (which is unheard of at present)
You might also have letters from debt Collectors, and they too can be ignored.

If you become worried, come back here and post up the letters that concern you.

Only page 2 of letter has arrived, but never mind.
It's a standard template and of no real significance.
Take for example the first question: Can civil recovery be issued for any amount of loss?
Answer "Yes" is factually incorrect as no claim can be issued for less than £15,
They can issue a claim for anything greater, but they then have to prove it, and that's where they fall down.
So they never do it!
This is what RLP tried in Oxford some years ago, and never dd again!
Here's a link to a thread discussing the case and its implications (if you want a little light reading:tinysmile_grin_thttp://www.legalbeagles.info/forums/...h-and-the-lies

Page 1 now arrived!
Security costs cannot be attributed to an individual as they are costs incurred by the retailer in the normal running of his business.
The "shoplifter" was not the direct cause of those costs.
