I have just received a letter from HSBC upholding my complaint of missold PPI on 3 personal loans and an HSBC credit card. HSBC have offered just over £4,000.
First of all, I cannot check whether the calculations re. the loans are correct - no details have been provided. However, in respect of the credit card, PPI repayments are only assessed between 1.03.2005 and 30.04.2006 (when I repaid the credit card in full). However, I had the credit card in 1987 and paid PPI all the way through until 2006. I have manged to find some old statements dating back to 1997, clearly showing PPI at £20 per month. This continued as I was always at my limit!
I cannot understand why HSBC are only taking just over a year's worth of repayments. I actually sent a photocopy of a statement from 1997 when I put in my claim. To put things in context, I was awarded £8,700 last year by M & S for a credit card and a personal reserve account - I only owed £6,000 in total so it was very nice indeed. M & S turned me down initially, but the Ombudsman found in my favour. I had the accounts with M & S for a LOT less time and when they sent the offer, they also sent a very detailed calculation of how the sum was arrived at. Any advice?
