Hi all. I wonder if you can help me with something. Hubby had a CCJ lodged against him for an old credit card debt with Egg, which was brought against him by Bryan Carter and is due to become time barred in August. We were in the midst of a terrible time and as such, he didn't end up going to the court date, so they also managed to get a 'caution' entry onto the title register of our home. He agreed to pay £30 a month, which he has been duly doing since the date of the ccj. We're hoping to move house towards the end of this year, so a few months ago we looked into how much was still outstanding and we're told that it stood at just over £4k. The original debt was only around £2.5k, but we didn't fight it in the beginning (stupid, I know) and it's too late to argue about it now. We had a letter from Bryan Carter the other day to tell us that they were passing the files over to Fredrickson (whom we believe to be a different arm of the same blood sucking satanic monster) and that the debt was now around £3k. If we continued to pay £30 a month, it would take us 8.5 years to clear it. If we weren't desperate to move, we'd probably just go with this option, just to pee them off! lol
We badly want rid of this debt, so that we can get cleared, get the entry on our title at the Land Registry removed and can get on with moving (although we're not going to tell them that!), so I have 3 questions:
1) Why have they transferred our case from the solicitor arm, to the debt collection arm of the company?
2) Why has the amount gone down by almost a grand in 3 months, when in reality we've only paid about £90
3) What are the chances that they'll let us do a partial settlement?
Huge thanks!
