    1) Can this be correct?

This is 'ridiculous', lodge a complaint with the FCA. This will only lead to more confusion, they have to provide the correct information. Quote the following from the FCA's - BCOBS

    ttps://www.handbook.fca.org.uk/handbook/BCOBS/2/1.html#:~:text=Principle%206%20requires%20a%20firm ,clear%2C%20fair%20and%20not%20misleading.

    2) Why would they not be able to adjust the account?

They probably make adjustments all the time, so can't see an issue. Send them a SAR request. You'll get a better picture of what's going on.

    3) Surely they have to provide accurate statments of account to be able to chase this debt?

Exactly, otherwise how do you know what's left to pay (complaint to FCA).

    4) How do I know that they won't at some point in the future come after me for the £4.5k that will be showing as oustanding?

You'll be paying the solicitors monies which won't be reflected in the statements you receive. So they'll be sending out statements that are wrong, so why send them out. (complaint to FCA).

    5) Don't they have to inform me if someone else is managing my account?

No one else should be managing your account. They can't sub contract your account to solicitors
    (complaint to FCA).

I would lodge a fresh complaint with the FOS, regards the above.
