  • Time to report Lowell to oft....

    Hi all,

After discussions on another thread regarding lowell and their dodgy dealings, I thought I'd open a new thread for people to post here.

It has been discussed that more of us should be reporting lowell to the OFT but it's going to take a lot of complaints for them investigate them and do anything about it.

I read previously on another thread that the oft had removed a licence from another dca and heavily fined them for the misuse of SD's.

Lowell have been investigated before by watchdog some years ago.

Think it's about time they are gone once and for all.

      Thank you dogtired.

I have and currently am receiving letters from, so far nothing like what I have been reading about...yet. they'd be stupid to issue me with a SD because I have nothing to give. But I hate bullies and can't stand to see injustice.
The amount of SD's I've seen issued by them in recent weeks is unbelievable and that's only what we see here, god only knows how many others out their have suffered at their hands.

People who come here are fortunate because we have Celestine. Imagine those that don't know where to turn and lose everything because of them!

Its disgusting, and that's just SD's....not to mention, the bullying, threats, intimidation,...

I'd personally like to see them shut down on the misuse of SD's alone so they can't abuse this system anymore!

I do hope we get a lot of support on this...angrycat has to take the credit for this, it was his idea.

In this poster's case, they issued 3 SDs in succession! :scared: :scared: :scared:

        This one? http://www.oft.gov.uk/news-and-updat...3#.UmvoaT_Tquk

There's a brand new Lowell SD thread where they're up to their old tricks yet again, pre-dating the SD by 8 days: http://www.legalbeagles.info/forums/...122#post382122 :mad2: :mad2: :mad2:

          Some examples of pre-dated SDs:

In it is a SD for a credit card debt from Halifax BOS.. Handed to me today 3rd October, yet signed by BW Legal on 23rd September. They mention the 18 days. Is this from today or 23rd September ?

Also a letter informing me of their intent to return on 15/10/13 to serve a SD on me.

I tried to phone them on the Saturday but just kept getting answering machine response, despite it being before 2pm their stated closing time on Saturdays. I phoned them again on Monday 14th and explained my current circumstances and offered to set up a monthly payment plan that I could realistically afford. My offer of £50 per month was dismissed as unacceptable by the chap on the phone, he wanted at least four times this amount.
When I asked if there was any way of not having the SD issued, he told me that it had already been issued to me, even though I had nothing but a promise of one in my hand. He went on to say that I should treat the SD as a final warning, saying that they would not necessarily act upon it and what they really wanted was dialogue.
Next day SD was posted through letterbox without even a knock, it was post dated 25th September.

The way the OFT works is that they act on the volume and nature of complaints. Unless an organization is a designated consumer body they won't act on third party (ie Legal Beagles) complaints so they must come directly from the complainees.

All of these examples are just one too many!

I really hope people get on board with this. I can understand why people don't report to OFT. They feel there is little that can be done, not realising the new powers the OFT have available to them. Also, after all the stress and anxiety people go through with being issued with a SD, it's probably something they want to put the furthest from their mind.

I'm thinking about perhaps contacting watchdog about them again, but I'm not sure how I'd go about it as none of the cases happened to me.

Yes, hopefully stating this thread to inform people here that they should complain and what lowell is doing is wrong and an abuse.

Angrycat reckons it would only take around 20 people in order for them to take up an investigation.

To be honest I think the issue is probably a little too technical for a popular consumer show like Watchdog. A publication like Private Eye would be more likely to take it up in my view. http://www.private-eye.co.uk/pages.php?page=contact

                    Couldn't agree more strong123

Something should be done about the way they operate.

Agree 100% with the campaign, although have serious doubts that ANYTHING will be done unless the rules on SDs and bankruptcy change this might help move that day forward.

                        It is not impossible!
Link Financial got their comeuppance because people like myself targeted their home Trading Standards and my/our own local TS...

                        But, no good people saying that they are going to complain;
                        THEY HAVE TO COMPLAIN!!!

Re: Time to report Lowell to oft....

I'm going to check this out on Monday whilst at work.

I'll see about contacting private eye. But also need to find out if it's ok to mention this site, and if there is anyone who has been issued a SD willing to discuss, as I'm sure they will want people to talk to about it.

Your right walesman, a change in the law is what we need and maybe this might be something that could sure it on.

And as Angrycat said, people need to complain and know that something can and will be done but only if you complain.

Of course it is. And it's not as if they haven't heard of us.
