  • How to find help to guide me through Credit Card Debt

    Hi
I have mental health issues and I am looking for guidance to help me settle my remaining Credit Card debt. 70% of my debt has been written off after a letter from my doctor to the creditors explaining how writing off my debt would help me move on with my life as well as recover and manage my physical and mental issues. The debts were written off by the original creditors who had not sold my debts due to my mental health.
I have debt buyers who between them still own some credit card debts of mine that were sold, who ignored my doctors letter.
I don't want to air all my stuff on line, so how do I find a lawyer who can guide me through this situation and help me respond to the creditors in a rational and proper way, I have bipolar and get myself in a real muddle and I become quite irrational. I can pay for the advise, just need to know who can look after me. I don't know where to turn for help.

    Hi MYDEBTTRIP

I hope you make good progress with all that you are dealing with.

Do you reside in the UK?

If so all the debt buyers etc has to abide by FCA guidelines.

Nice of you to reply, bless you.

I left the UK nearly five years ago, I just could not cope anymore with the stress of these debts, but the debts came with me I guess and still haunt me daily. I am searching for someone who knows what to do to help me negotiate my way forward to try and be done with these last debts once and for all.

With Bipolar I am not stable and struggle to deal with creditors, oscillating from manic to depressive. I have no UK address and no UK assets, bank accounts or mobile contracts. I am not suggesting I walk away as that is not what I want to do and in my opinion not the right thing to do either.

I am searching for a solution that is good for me and good for the debt buyers. I am looking for a conclusion as the 12 years I have been in debt is slowly wearing my mental and physical health to a point where I can no longer cope and its becoming a serious issue for me. I feel the two debt buyers don't hear me, they appear oblivious to my situation.

If I haven't misunderstood, what you could do is write / email the creditors who wrote off the 70%, explain that they have written off the 70% because of your health circumstances, it is unfair for them to then sell that debt off to debt buyers. Tell them they need take back that debt off and write it off.

Explain that if the matter isn't resolved, then you will lodge a complaint with the Financial Ombudsman Service.

Not sure the OC will buy back the debt? They have done what was asked of them and they (unless any legal clause from the formulation of the 70% write off prevents them?) have assigned their rights to another company.
however I think I’m right in thinking that these new debt purchases have a special team that must acknowledge your situation and will either reduce the debt further or possibly stop any further action, will require further evidence of your condition from medics etc. I can’t remember the name given to these teams but someone may be along shortly who does know?

I have not explained myself properly.

I started with about 300,000 in debt with 17 creditors.

13 creditors wrote off all my debt leaving me with 4 creditors and about 125,000 in debt.

I have 4 credit card remaining owned by deb buyers. These debts are intact and the debt buyers have ignored the medical evidence.

I am sorry as I find that people do not always understand me, my bipolar and dyslexia get the better of me.

'Specialist support' is the team names and they do look after me. However they are just very nice people who appear to understand me but do nothing.

Yes, I made a verbal request on the four remaining credit card accounts and did not pay anything, got an email yesterday about one account saying the documents I requested are attached. A copy of my agreement which I cant read as the quality is too bad and a second document with a three page terms and conditions. They don't appear linked, how do I get them checked?

I can't send a 1 pound postal order or receive a land post copy as I am overseas and don't have an address.

Yes, 2003 agreement, I have a copy if you are interested to see it, I have removed all personal info and scanned it.

I also want to thank you for all you are doing for me, I am grateful.
