  • Santander overdraft help needed. Thanks.

I am currently in the process of doing a self managed dmp.
I have an overdraft well 2 with abbey and I have left this one till more or less last to deal with.
I don’t know if this is the right course of action but I set up payment plans with the companies who excepted my proposals and the others I just let default and waited for them to go to collections agencies (to add I have given up worrying about my credit rating)

So I have just received a default notice for one of my accounts from abbey and I have searched high and low but cant seem to find any info on there collection process.

So my question is does anyone know what the process is I have 2 overdrafts one for £400 and one for £1600. Will they sell these debts of or will they pursue them themselves?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks in advance.

Abbey National sold my overdraft very quickly to Debt Managers way back in 2001. Was for around £2k.

Debt Managers did pursue me for the money, so I asked them to 'prove it'
They sent me a copy of my AN bank acct application form, on which it was clearly stated on it in two places
that no overdraft facility was required.

They later also sent me what were allegedly copy statements for the last few
months of the accounts life back in 2001.
However, it was just a load of figures printed on blank A4 paper - and the
      very last figure was £0

I wrote to them (Debt Managers) pointing out that the bank application form had indicated no overdraft facility,
and also pointed out to them that the alleged statements showed a zero balance at the end, and if in fact I had an overdraft facility
I would have had written notification/confirmation from AN so please show me it.

Funnily enough I never heard back from Debt Managers - or anyone else

      H/T

Now the accounts are defaulted I would get in touch and make your offer of repayment before they get ditched to DCA's. They tend to go through collections dept first (talking about overdrafts) so if you get in there it should save some hassle, also they, as many banks, wont accept DMPs till the accounts in collections (though thats something being looked at in the review of the lending code)

Might also be worth having a look at the lending code for some bits about DMPs to quote at them in your letters.
