  • Advantage Gold account- a rip off ??

    Hello All,

I am thinking that if they applied AGC to you account. Did they work it out on your earnings?????

I never asked for this and although I have read that I cannot ask for it back, I feel that this was applied without my consent. And I want it back

I can imagine the scene, all these keen young bankers, brainstorming on ideas of how you make more profit for the banks. Somebody pipes up and says "Why don't we applied Monthly charges for services on accounts. The average Mr Joe Bloggs will get a moral boost, really think they are important, and think the bank things he is a value customer (even though his account is badly run. We will profit from the £12 a month for doing nothing, as well as making extortionate profit from charging him penality charges as well). And when he is really struggling, we will offer him a loan (discounted of course because he has AGC) but will will put payment protection insurance on and make millions:hugsss:

I bet he is far up the Company now CEO I would imagine

I will ask some advice for you from someone that can help. I need to discuss something off forum prior to giving advice.

Just a brief initial response although this is not the off forum bit I need to check on. Advantage Gold is not earnings related product.
Advantage Gold, IMHO has been one of the products most missold since its inception and the hard sales approach. There is something in branches called clawback(by now you are aware of the points scoring system for ALL financial products within banking). That means that any account converted back within the initial 3 month period would lose the branch points gained for the conversion. I will write some common misconceptions on Advantage Gold and one of them is that you have to have the account for the entirety of the loan because of the discount which is incorrect.
That is not the only benefit of the account, 1% discount is not the only benefit of the account. I have summarised them across here, RUC and CCS forums.
Staff do not pay for it as it is part of their benefits package as staff.

My step account was 'upgraded' to this nonsense account back in June, but as they didnt upgrade my card to switch i thought why bother paying £12 a month for nothing.
It was as you said a good earner for them but i have now cancelled it and downgraded to current plus

Please can you explain the title because the only Advantage Gold Card that I am aware of is a discount card for certain bars and restaurants? Thanks

                  Title changed

Yes you should have had to complete an application (as such - at least have signed your name on a bit of paper ) to have the advantage gold put on your account. So you should be able to ask for a copy of this ''agreement'' from the bank.

Not sure what happens if you get advatage gold added at the inception of the account tho.

Hell i was called into branch to offer me the upgrade to advantage gold from step account
Biggest load of rubbish it is, they also signed me up for contents insurance and life insurance which guess what when started taking the payments they put me over the limit and i got charged gggrrrr!
I just cancelled it in branch and went to current plus
Its just another way of making money off you, the benefits arent worth £12 a month

                        Hello Ame,

Thank you for changing the name of the thread:kiss: You are most kind.

Now as far as I am concerned. I have never never asked, been asked or signed or agreed to anything. verbal or written. I am so knaive and stupid that I thought it was just part and parcel of the account.

So I just about to send my prelim of for bank charges since 1993 and off course for all service charges. So lets see what happens there then

                          Hello,

I have taken the bull by the horns, if I don't ask, I don't get, so I have sent the prelim regarding pre the last six year penalty charges. The AGF and interest on the overdraft. So we will wait and see what comes of this. I can wait to see the response, if I get onemsl:

I totally blame the NW for my indebtedness. so I take great delight in fighting them:devil: I would really like to sue them for what happened last year.

Hells, I know you are pursuing this on various forums and I will come back to you on this but I think it is a mistake that you have put together Advantage Gold fees and the default charges. As I have been saying recently I am not back yet but when I do you will know. I am unfortunately a person who has advantage gold, have used advantage gold and I do believe that it is a good account BUT only IF you use the account. As I said I will return to this subject shortly when I am on the boards fully. Not too long til that happens.

Where you been:kiss: I agree it is a mistake regarding putting the claims together, so I will pursue them separately. Not seen you on other forums, bet you change your username as much as you change your underpantsmsl:

As I said I will return to this subject shortly when I am on the boards fully. Not too long til that happens. Are you getting promotion. Hope so as I did not ask for AGF, it was just applied. I didn't know any better then.
