  • Expenses claims

    Hi

Until recently I worked for a large company and was required to purchase various items, for resale to customers, which I would claim back on expenses. I was very busy performing two roles (Manager and Rep) and failed to check my credit card statements. This resulted in a a number of purchases not being claimed and subsequently remaining unpaid. This led to some large interest payments to the credit card company. I asked my employer for assistance with this but they refused, stating that it was not their policy to be held liable for any such charges.
I have since been dismissed, can I make a claim against them for the monies I lost?

    Cheers,

    Germo

    Re: Expenses claims

Most credit card purchases are interest free for a period (mine's 56 days), so your employer might be able to argue that they would reasonably expect you to claim within that period for expense and that as you have not they are not liable for the interest.

Really, it depends on what their policy on claiming expenses says.

Had you submitted timely claims and they failed to pay them, then that might be an altogether different matter.

Was it only the interest you were trying to claim from them that there was an issue with? Have they paid out the actual spends amounts?

          Hi Amethyst,

Yes, they paid all that I claimed but refused to assist when I accrued interest on the balance, even though the purchases were goods to be sold to customers to make money for them....

          Cheers
