Hi everyone. Another CAG member disillusioned with the world and looking for a new place to "hang out and help"....
I have abandoned ship, so to speak, from the CAG for many reasons.
There is the obvious issue of DCA's posting on the forums trying to get people to phone up to receive "help"....
Then, and this is a personal peeve of mine (please don't shoot me down if you disagree), in the spirit of helping the consumer fight back effectively I whole heartedly believe that it is important to allow people to understand what the law is. And by that I don't mean what we would like it to be, or what it could be in the future, or speculative arguments that may be able to change precedents in the future - I mean what the currently accepted law is right now...
Please let me explain further:
I think that if people are looking on the internet to get help for a debt problem, for sake of argument, they are unlikely to have the funds to get professional help and are equally as unlikely to be able to run the risk of taking any sort of challenge to a superior court.
On that basis, I feel that first and foremost, the current law is most important and then, as a second and firmly second point, any possible future arguments should be debated - but not necesarily advised to people who are seeking assistance with worrying problems.
I think that on the CAG, as many long-time members left, there has become and ever-increasing "militant" attitude which to an extent I like - but I feel that a number of newer members who have learned information from the boards have effectively taken over and are letting their hatred of the debt collection industry etc cloud their judgements and give people what is, in my personal opinion, inaccurate information. For sake of argument by taking a very narrow (and unaccepted) interpretation of a statute etc - or even by totally ignoring statutes!
I can't count the number of times I have been shot down for attempting to bring to light such erroneous comments.
In short, I no longer wish to be a part of that community and I do hope to find a more democratic community here at leagalbeagles in which I can do my bit to help people who may otherwise be bullied and bashed into submission by possibly unscrupulous companies.
I'm not an expert in law and I don't know everything. I am still learning. I am a mature law student just entering the second year of my degree - but I will try my very hardest to help people here in this community.
All the very best.
UF
