  • Foodbank missing funds

Im Chairman the local British Legion in the highlands of scotland. We used to have a food bank run out of our Legion hall, for which we received a a Grant from the highland council. As part of the grant there were conditions to be met when the project closed.

These were; 1. A Project report which we have provided, 2. A formal accounting of expediture from the treasurer of the foodbank

The problem I am seeking advice is 2. The Foodbank in question were asked to leave the legion premises due to a breach in the rental agreement, the treasurer took her food bank and moved it elsewhere.

On requesting formal accounts to meet the highland councils condition, all that was provided was a bunch of receipts without a formal income and expediture report.

At the moment the foodbank treasurer is refusing to provide such a report or provide an expanation gleaned from my audit of the receipts which shows discrepincies WRT income (the grant) expenditure (receipts) of c£750, added to this there is evidence that the foodbank received donations of £500

What are my options to remedy this situation?

You could write a letter to her requesting the information you seek, give her a deadline, state that failure to respond and you will have no alternative, but to report the matter to the authorities.

I understand the 'difficulty', someone who does 'good', but I suggest she would want to be 'accountable'.

I've already sent her a registered letter, she has todate failed to engage.

Did you state that you will have to report the matter to the authorities, then she will have to respond.

This sounds like a situation that you must escalate if the treasurer does not engage and will not provide a full and detailed financial account.

I agree with echat11 : give that final opportunity, with a very clear warning.
