Surname issue concerning GCSE results

Hi all,
I’m after a bit of advice concerning my GCSE results.

Life story moment I’m afraid…
My birth certificate name is Tom Burrows and because mum remarried to a Slater I was on the register in primary school as Tom Burrows KA (known as) Slater. Unfortunately my name was given as Tom Slater throughout high school and therefore my given GCSE results were put as Tom Slater.
Problem is, this isn’t my name and I’ve never changed my name legally from the one given on my birth certificate.

Stupidly I never thought this would be a big issue until years later when I’m applying for an access course (to uni) and they want to know why my name is in Slater on the GCSE results when my name is actually Tom Burrows, because for all they know, I could’ve half inched them.

I can’t think of any way round this considering my results were given back in 2007 and I need these results otherwise I’m going to have to do my GCSEs all over again. Shall I contact a solicitor to write me something as proof that I am that same person?

Contact admissions at the Uni. Explain the situation and ask them what evidence is required. Unless required no need for the expense of a solicitor.
They will want to help but, as you realise, must protect the integrity of the course.
Be open and courteous in your communication.

Alternatively you could write to your school to have them confirm how you were listed in their systems.

You could then check if that is evidence enough for accessing the course.

If not, write to the awarding bodies of your GCSE's with a copy of the letter and explain the situation, then ask them to update their information to correct the mistake and reissue your GCSE certificates.
