  • NTC/Caledonian consumer finance - mental health question

    Hi all,

I am writing this to you almost a year into paying for a course I never started and would love to see if anyone else has had a similair issue.

During a particularly traumatic time in my life I foolishly signed up to a trades course with a company called "New trades career" or "NTC" as they are sometimes known. All sounded great at the time and a much needed lifeline. It didn't take long before the horrors unfolded.

They made out as if the course could be done in your own time and no costs would be incurred but that soon turned out to be a lie as they charge you to extend modules etc. What's more is there is absolutely no recourse for getting off the coursezthey sign you up for the full cost with a finance company called Caledonian consumer finance and that's your lot. Despite me mentioning that I wanted to do the first year and see how I got on the slippery sales advisor advised me "theres no point you migjt as well go for the full 3" obviously knowing full well he'd be signing me up to the exorbitant fee.

I have raised a complaints precedure with Caledonian consumer finance and the burden of proof obviously lies with me to prove it was missold. It just so happens that I have been diagnosed with Adhd with traces of a borderline personality disorder and to say the monthly burden of 180 pounds going out of my account for essentially nothing has made this problem worse. Where do I stand with using this rediagnosis to escape the payments. Does anybody know?

Also, they completely misrepresented my earnings in the initial contract claiming I was earning 900 pounds a month when in actual fact it was 400 so 180 is almost 50% of my wages. Is this a reasonable amount to expect somebody to pay?

Any help as always much appreciated and I look forward to discussing the issues further with you all and being a regular contributor, thank you
