Purchaser Solicitor taking forever

Really looking for advice as mind is going a million miles an hour. Sold my shared ownership flat end of April, and the paperwork still hasn't gone through now. I have been advised by my solicitor that it will take another couple of months as she's waiting all the paperwork back from the purchasers solicitor. I purchased a house within this time, to which I had to complete separately as the chain couldn't wait. I didn't want to lose the house. So currently paying 2 mortgages, rent etc etc.
Could I gazump the purchaser to cover the cost of mortgage and rent that I've been paying on the flat? Claim compensation? I don't know what I'm entitled to do.

Is there another buyer who could gazump them and complete more quickly?

I don't think you could claim compensation as you chose to complete on your purchase before having completed on your sale, unless a specific contract was signed to say that it would complete on X date and compensation would be owing.
