    1. This ^ is nonsense.
The police have no power whatsoever to decide whether, or not, an employer should take disciplinary action against an employee.
If the police had been involved, which I doubt, they could only gather evidence to present to the CPS who would then decide whether to press criminal charges.

    2. If they mention the police again I suggest that your wife ask for the name of the officer dealing with it saying that she's surprised that, given her employer seemed certain of her guilt and must have told them this, the police haven't been in touch with her so far. So, she wants to talk to him/her so that she can help with this criminal matter.
I'd love to hear what half-arsed excuse they come up with to get out of that.

    3. They don't give up do they?
The point of the financial bullying questions was that they hoped to get your wife to admit that she was under some financial pressure either because of her personal circumstances or because of an outside pressure.
If they'd succeeded this could have been used by them as a motive for your wife to steal from her employer.

    4. They've realised how badly they messed this up and that they can't take it any further.
Because of 3 your wife shouldn't trust them not to try to set her up again.
When she finds out what the new 'measures' are she should send any questions she has about them by email and, once she's happy that she understands and can comply with them, follow them to the letter. She should also watch her back in general.

    5. Them giving up doesn't negate the SAR. They are still required to comply with it and if they try something like this again she will need it.
She does not need to give them a reason why she wants it complied with.
However, if she wants to give them a reason it would be that her employer has in it's possession a document that states that she is guilty of a criminal offence.

Marie you have been fab and thank you , however i do have a very nervous wife who is dreading tomorrow knowing she has to liase with her manager whom throughout various stages of being interviewed it seems has said quite a few things which are untrue , her trust is gone completely in this woman and in her heart of hearts she will hate to leave but already can not see another option , my question is can they get away with her treatment , they have ruined a great job which is close and she loved it but already she foresees problems ?

It's possible that, because of the way this investigation was being conducted, her manager was telling them what she thought they wanted to hear so as to prevent being targeted herself. Not much of an excuse I know, but new jobs can be hard to find these days.
At least your wife now knows that she can't be relied on.

Whether they get away with it depends on what happens next.
Although they seem to have given up on the theft allegation there are still outstanding matters like:
        The awaited audit results.
        The new 'measures'.
        The SAR response and
        The alleged police involvement.

Although it seems unjust, if your wife was to resign now they may get away with what they've done so far.
That said, looking for another job is a good idea because she's likely to be much happier away from this particular employer.

How long has she worked there?

Sorry for the long period of time before response back, well after a few days back, my wife then took a few days holiday whilst the relief cover was available, upon her return to work she took through money bags which should have been tilled up and banked by her manager as per new measures, within 10-15 mins the manager came through to the kitchen declaring that a bag was ten pound short and asking for my wife. A kitchen assistant who was present asked why and was told that fridays bag was short and that my wife had been on shift, the assistant corrected her and told her it was actually her and the other assistant who had cashed up and both signed to verify the amountsand my wife was off that day, the managers face took a change and she went back to her office.

My wife had been outside for a smoke and on her return the assistant filled her in on what had just happened, my wife went to office to find out whay was going on and was met by the manager who said her and a HR person had counted the bags and one was down, when told the day etc my wife said all i have done is brought the money bags to you , all of which were cashed up by other people as she wasnt there.

The manager said then that the money (ten pounds ) had gone between the girls putting it in the safe and my wife bringing it to her ( notice no possibility of it going missing in the managers possesion !!!) and then said that she didnt want to call the housing officer who had acted as the investigator previously due to the hassle, at the this time the 2 girls who had cashed up were fretting and offered to pay what was down but had no money on them so my wife gave ten pound in, she sat thinking then about her manager not wanting any hassle but wanted it all out in the open as she had only been back in work a few days so she rang the previous investigating officer and told him what had gone on.

When she came home she told me everything and how her manager was all but saying it was her even after having sat down to put everything behind them and with ongoing issues regarding Bi-polar assessment if she needed any help or anything just ask. This was too much for my wife went to the doctors and was signed off for a month with severe anxiety. While she was suspended her collegues informed her several times of the tills being down or wrong yet no issues, she has now been off for 2 weeks and her collegues ( 3 of them ) have been interviewed today about the missing money, we missed the post today which had a signed for letter which we will collect tommorrow which we suspect maybe from the company?( requesting an interview) I am currently collating all the new goings on and we are going to seek further leagal advice as this has made her self esteem plummet and doubt her own ability.

Today we recieved the SAR which is heavily edited as predicted and was produced on the 18 Jul 18 for the previous incident Aug 2017, which concludes that due to only being 2 people who it could have been and one of them has left then my wife was the suspect, she has worked there 7 years and all this stinks to high heaven.

Like clockwork the recorded delivery was to attend a disciplinary investigation again but firstly liasing with there occupational health team to assess wether she is able to attend and secondly to see how long her condition will last !!

And to top it all this investigation is being led by the guy who we have made the sar request for in which he sums up his statement regarding the incident last year aug 2017 now written on 18 jul 18

" hope this assists with your investigation, as we know that only 2 people were in that area during the window of opportunity last time and with Blank no longer on the scene that only leave DW "my wife" as a suspect given that the same thing has happened again "

My wife cannot cope like this for much longer , she rang her work collegue today to find out that when her collegue has been handing in money the manager has signed and its only when my wife has tried " 3 times" she has refused to counter sign, surely this is so obvious that she is being singled out , why do the higher managers even condone this, they must realise their scheme manager is not on the level , other collegues during their interview have said they do not trust a word the manager says as she is constantly lying to all of them, how can this manager who is so clearly in the wrong get so much backing. I feel this esculating into something which could be solved by her manager stopping lying but instead this taking an unhealthy toll on my wife.
