  • N24 Genral form of judgment

As a claimant I have received N24 Genral form of judgment; the defence discloses no reasonable grounds for defending the claim and I have checked with the court and no further defence has been submitted, how do I progress the claim further?

If you have been sent a Judgement then you have won the claim. Depending on the wording of the order you need to wait a period of time to see if the Defendant makes payment and if not after that period you would need to move to enforce it.

Enforcement can be by Warrant of Execution if the judgement is under £600 for the bailiffs to recover the sum plus the cost of the application for it (£100) or if over £600 escalate the judgement to the High Court for enforcement by a Writ of Control plus the cost of the application for it (£60) to command a High Court Enforcement Officer to recover for you.

Alternatively you can apply for an Attachment of Earnings order if the Defendant is employed and you have an idea of where, but you cannot do this for self-employed or on benefits.

It really depends on the amount of the judgement and whether the Defendant is an individual or company to advise you which is best.
