Ideally I would like to hear from the members but anyone can reply!!!
OK all, I’m probably not known for being that serious so decided to try to surprise you with a bit of an abstract topic.
Most (if not all) of us are refugees for somewhere else and have made a decision to accept the “most excellent” hospitality and amenities available to us here. We have been through the angst of breaking away from one community (I would assume for a variety of reasons, either as a result of situations we experienced personally or situations the happened to those we regards as friends) and now we find ourselves at the ground floor of a potentially enormous virtual building that we will be involved in filling with individuals and welding same into a community.
For a while before my decision to leave elsewhere I could feel the winds of totalitarian change blowing through the forums, posts were edited removed or locked by fiat with no apparent right of appeal or even reason. Discussions questioning the direction of the site were either ignored or else the participants in such discussions started to experience “difficulties” in using the site.
For me the final straw was the removal of the only area where communication was virtually instantaneous where many got the immediate help they needed (I know I did and my thread updating suffered due to the help I got from total strangers there), Understandably people took the opportunity to air concerns there as well, maybe not appropriate but what other avenue did we have.
Information and the sharing of ideas I feel is the lifeblood of any successful community, which not surprisingly seems to be the opposite of the experience I had before. We have been given a voice and leave to use it, with such largesse comes the responsibility to use it wisely. Rules are needed to guide and encourage the development of a community rather than subjegate its population and we owe our gratitude and respect to the individuals that have made this possible.
Everything is in place for us to do what is right and not replicate anything we might feel were errors from other societies. So your thoughts on how it could be done are appreciated.
