Re: CSA presentation on 'combating consumer websites'

Having just read comments Sara de Tute board director of the CSA, Consumer forums are a great source of info & as a writer extremely useful.

Of course there are wild cards re-misinformation on these sites but you learn to pick up on what truly matters.

Overall the Collections industry hasn't behaved professionally and it still has a long long way to go before there's even a glimmer of fairness and trust on their part.

Why on earth would this individual complain about consumers celebrating any victory when CSA members hold regular awards for what they do.

As for insulting Creditors, debt purchasers, DCAs, etc, what about the threats, offensive comments, deceitful & dishonest conduct within her chosen industry,
Sara De Tute you seriously want to get a grip and look at your members more closely instead of pampering them!!

I think by making such a biased statement the CSA may have shot themselves in the foot, they are after all supposed to be independent arbiters are they not

Any chance you can cut & paste her remarks??

Why is there nothing constructive about CSA's pronouncements? Is this the way to take things forward? No recognition of the work these Websites have done when other organisations have either fallen short or have acted illegally. Where are the suggestions and consultations to make sure DCAs act lawfully instead of using intimidation and bullying
to get their way? Where are the suggestions to find ways to prevent big institutions
taking advantage of peoples' ignorance of the law? Waste of time.

Re: CSA presentation on 'combating consumer websites'

Its just sour grapes Letting off steam. Discussion on forums is free speech and there is nothing that can be 'done' about it. Even if by some miraculous wave of a wand the UK citizens were no longer allowed to talk on Internet forums about experiences, advice or guidance with regards to consumer credit, a server or ten would just pop up in Sweden, Netherlands, USA etc where such restriction on freedom of speech would be somewhat frowned upon.

If the might of the US government and the music indsutry cannot take down the likes of wikileaks or piratebay after so long leaning their muscles on them when real laws have actually been broken, whats the pitiful CSA going to achieve towards sites like this when they get all hurt that consumers dare speak out about them and share information about them.
Advice given is offered as personal opinion only. I always recommend you seek professional legal advice.

I heard DCAs pay less than 10% of the debt when they buy it from the original lender.

Re: CSA presentation on 'combating consumer websites'

I have just one thing to say in our defense - FREEDOM OF SPEECH AND EXPRESSION. Besides, there is no smoke without fire, so if you don't like whats being send or done by Consumer forums, then you shouldn't have lit the fire!!

                Consumer Forums
                • Websites set up to assist consumers and for individuals to share experiences

                What do they actually do?
                • Encourage consumers to avoid paying debts - No we do not, unless the debt is unenforceable or statute barred by law. At least we don't make up last payment dates to fraudulently try and reset the statute barred clock.

                • Celebrate “victories” against creditors - No we do not, we celebrate victories in LAW on behalf of consumers only. its not our fault your sore losers whose legal argument didn't succeed in court, because you was wrong.

                • Set up tallies of how much has been refunded in bank charges - And whats wrong with that, you keep tallies of how much debt you have successfully reclaimed, and boast about it too.

                • Provide standard template letters - Yes we do but they are perfectly lawful, where as some of your members threatograms fall foul of the OFT and the law. Hell, some of your members are well known to purchase templates of solicitors to send to numerous debtors. In any case our templates are merely pointing out the onus of prove is on you, requesting copy of CCA which a debtor is legally entitled to request or requesting a DSAR which again the debtor is legally entitled too.

                • Breeding grounds for misinformation - consumer detriment - False, we provide accurate information and details of people legal rights. Whilst some sites are questionable, not all are. we only tell consumers the truth that you would rather they did not known in order to protect your own bottomline.

                • Insult creditors, debt purchasers and DCAs - We are perfectly entitled to say what we feel and think about them, they treat some of our members no better on phone, or with their numerous daily phone calls or numerous threatening letters. Like i said, there's no smoke without fire.

                Consumer Forums
Examples of the most commonly used Consumer Forums
                Consumer Action Group = Dickheads
Blagger.com - Neutral, as not connected to them
Penaltychargesforum.co.uk = Neutral, as not connected to them
Getoutofdebtfree.org = Neutral, as not connected to them
                Legalbeagles.info = We are awesome

                • Discussed Consumer Forums and CMCs with
the OFT - And the answer better have been "Consumers have a voice and are entitled to express themselves"

So they have raised the CCA 77-79 issue with the consumer affairs minister, in the hope of changing the legislation that gives us consumers the right to request copies of the CCA, and that if such copy is not produced the debt becomes unenforceable. So if they can't win, the cheating scum try to change the law in their favour at the expense of legitimate consumers that are alleged debtors only! Just shows how dirty and greedy these idiots are.

Ohhh Hang on, just realised this thread is from 2009 - God i hate it when people post in threads that have been dead for over a year "Curious73"!!

lol, ahh but it's nice to have these reminders. Wonder if they've had any more presentations about combatting consumer groups since then.

I started to read this before looking at the date of the original post. Sara de Tute hasn't really had much success really. LB goes from strength to strength. More and more people are becoming aware of their LEGAL RIGHTS and challenging the lies and bullying of the scummy DCAs

Seems like they want a one sided fight with the challenger unable to defend their position in the way the Law that the DCAs don't agree with allows.
