Hi
I would appreciate some advice please on an incident that happened earlier this week.
On Wednesday morning I was shopping in this shop and took several things into the changing room to try on along with my shopping bags. I was rushing and had 10 minutes before needing to get back to car so hastily tried on all items. I decided to take all items but wanted to see a cardigan on in full length better lit mirror outside in store away from changing rooms. I left cardigan on and in my haste I left changing rooms with bags other items but stupidly put my coat on without thinking. On leaving the changing rooms I told the lady I wanted to take everything and she said well I need to count the items in your hand, of which she did. Only then did I realise what had happened as i saw 3 hangers with nothing on. I explained that I had cardigan on and wanted to see it in full light outside of changing rooms. She asked about other hangers and I didn't know so I said the items must be in changing cubicle. We both returned to said changing cubicle where I walked in took coat off cardigan off and handed back to her. In that moment I then saw two garments on shelf of cubicle and in blind panic I put them with my shopping bags (moments later I realised they were concealed) She didn't see this. She did not come in to cubicle. She then frog marched me out into a side area archway in changing rooms by desk, probably (but not entirely sure?) Away from any cameras as I think there was one on the main exit/entrance to rooms. whilst she shouted to her colleague to alert security she pushed me into this area as I tried to talk to the colleague. I then saw that as I put my bags down on floor which were open the two remaining garments were in there so I took them out and placed on floor next to where I was standing. After this all happened security arrived and I explained my silly actions about the coat and my reasons. He said I looked genuine. The manager turned up and said we have cctv and will look at it. I now realise then that I should have told them that the other two garments had gone in my bag but didnt. He simply asked for my name and phone number. Nothing else. The manager said I could go but as company policy states she will be taking matters further. I left my details and left the shop.
I feel sick and have not slept or eaten. I am devastated at how guilty I look and did apologise for how it seemed. I am a professional person and my job relies on no criminal record. I have not shoplifted I have not left store. The cctv could have caught me in that separate section of the changing room taking garments out of my bag. I was never asked: to leave shopping bags out of cubicle when entering, security did not ask to see my bags, they do not have any information but my name and home number which was real although I could have told them anything.
What is likely to happen? I need to prepare myself. I have told my husband and he is standing by me as he knows I am a bit thoughtless and air headed at times! I just want to know if further action will be taken. It is causing me great stress.
Kind regards and look forward to some advice and support please.
