The HMPO will allow a representative to attend the PO on your behalf - you have to complete a letter of authority to allow someone to attend for you.

So to have a courier collect your application, photos and old passport (if applicable) - go to the Passport Office - wait the four hours to collect the passport - and return it to your door - within 24 hours - is probably worth paying £117 on top of your passport fee.

The trouble is that is the service he ''advertises'' for £117 - I haven't yet heard from anyone who has actually used that service - usually he just books you an appt at the PO for you to attend yourself, which really is no service at all.

Where a passport is collected by a third party, the third party should produce the receipt, a letter from the applicant (or passport holder's parent in the case of a child) authorising the collection of the passport by the named person, and evidence of their own ID. This proof of ID could be a driving licence, passport, medical card, or utility bill issued within the last three months. A photocopy of the letter of authorisation must be scanned onto the application.
Anyone aged under 16 years of age should be allowed to collect their passport, provided they have a signed letter of authority from the parent or guardian who signed the application form. This is also mentioned in the application form, and page two of the information guide.
Applicants who are 16 years of age or over and who collect their passport in person do not need an authorisation letter from a parent or guardian.
Where an applicant arrives at the Collection point to collect their passport, ask for their cashiered receipt. If the receipt has been lost, ask for evidence of their identity. If they are unable to collect themselves they should provide an authorisation letter for a third party to collect.

    When submitting at the counter
Where a passport application is submitted at the public counter by a third party, evidence of the applicant's ID in the form of a countersigned form, certified photo or supporting documents will normally be submitted with the application.
If further evidence of the applicant's ID is required, it should not be expected that a third party would be in possession of that ID.
Where the applicant's ID is in doubt, and all relevant documentation has been submitted, the application should be taken in, relevant checks made, and further evidence of ID requested from the applicant if necessary.
Where the application is for a Premium service and additional ID for the applicant is required a line manager should be consulted. If the line manager agrees that the only alternative is to request additional evidence of ID the application should be rejected and resubmitted with the evidence required.

The trading name “British Passport Services” has become toxic and linked to several articles in the Daily Mail, BBC and internet forums, so a decision has been made to phase out the BPS trading name and replace it with a universal UK Passport Services and UK Services trading names which will be brought in in due course.

          Legal yes.

Even if I have misrepresented myself to make you think I was the taxi company in the first place?
That's what makes it against consumer regulations and invalidates any agreement/contract.

Oh as I say, can it be defended yes..... BUT its like our friends in the DCA department chucking around spurious claims for debt that predated Stonehenge.. If defended gets chucked out (assuming it gets to a court) otherwise, if not defended they win.... Mr Howard I think is playing the game of numbers, similar to the DCA's... one man fights back ten men pay... He wins....

It's funny, we get a LOT of defamation complaints nowadays. We've got an entire sub forum in Team for them. In the last few years since our SEO has got to the point where if you Google a given company name, a post on Beagles will often come above the website of the company and although we take a pretty hard line on companies using defamation complaints as a form reputation management we often wince when a poster uses the word 'scam' to describe a company. But not so UK Services & Support Ltd.

The danger Amethyst isn't the if you will defend, I know your defense is excellent... You can probably send him packing for defended claims....
The danger lies in the ability of this 'business model' to be used in an endless variety of permutations, to proliferate if you like... He could even 'sell' this model on as a money making venture.... The key must be surely to deprive him of unhindered access to search engine rankings.... Fill clone-sites with explicit warnings about well clone sites plus embedded links for convenience to official government gateways.
Plus although the government may be lethargic about dealing with this, maybe time to bang on their drum too... They want us to go online for everything from car tax to speeding summonses.... Hows about we make a noise about the government offering these services up again off line if they are not prepared to do anything about scam sites....

Hi I have just been conned by British passport services, I paid the £117.60 by direct debt and within the hour I realised it was a conn the next day I rang them, they said they would cancel the application and gave me a cancelation number 63716. I can not get a refund from them, after 8 emails I am not getting my refund. I phoned my bank they informed me because I had used a direct debt the could not stop the transaction. I informed BPP that I was a pensioner and had made a error. This company are bad people (leeches is the word for them ) I informed them I did not have £117.60 to lose or lots of money to lose, But I do have time on my side. I will go to the police, Write to my MP, Treading standards, TV shows, and news papers. These conn people can not get away with this.

You set up a direct debit to pay them, rather than paying on a credit or debit card?

If so I assume you have the payee's bank details?
