  • Is a CRU letter from DWP standard procedure?

Hi everyone, I hope this hasn't been asked elsewhere.
I had a bad fall last year on council grounds that were uneven. I ended up with a broken leg, that was dislocated, had to be put back into place then I had to have surgery to pin it in place. Ended up with 9 screws. Had complications and 4 screws are wedging out my leg in chronic ppain etc and requiring further surgery on it.

It was actually the paramedic who told me to put a claim in I wouldn't have even thought to do so. So I did, and the council insurers sent me a claim pack in August. Since then I haven't had much correspondence from them.

I received a letter yesterday from dwp CRU (compensation revovery unit) stating they hadn't given me a lump sum or any benefit payments. I phoned them to enquire and was told it was the council insurer who had initiated this.

I phoned the council insurer and was no further forward. All they said was the report from the council is now in.

Does the cru letter mean they have made a decision or they've admitted liability or is it purely standard procedure?

DWP have received a standard enquiry letter from the insurers asking if DWP had paid out benefits resulting from the injury.
If they had the insurers (if council found liable for injury) would have to reimburse DWP.
It seems the DWP have sent you a copy of the letter they have sent to the insurers (a bit unusual tho'... perhaps they sent it to you by mistake instead of the insurers!)

Probably sent a similar letter to the hospital where you received treatment, as the NHS trust can claim back the cost of treatment from the council insurers
