  • Licence revoked in 1999 without knowledge can you help.

Hi all hope someone can shed light on this as I'm having trouble getting my head round it.

Let me first say that the police are not to blame here they where fair and tried to sort this out.

My Driver was stopped to day in a Lorry by the police because he went through a red light ( they did not ticket him for this ) on checking his licence they found that it had been revoked in 1999 so he was driving with no licence, my driver had no idea why he had no knowledge of an offence he passed his test in 1996 his HGV in 1998 all confirmed by the police DVLA. The DVLA and the police could not tell him why it was revoked or for what reason so they put the lorry in the dog house and gave the driver a £200 fine and 6 points for no insurance ( the lorry had insurance but not for him to drive no licence ). I can't understand this the driver has broken the law with the red light and not keeping his details up to date with DVLA when he moved houses there is a reason but its not really relevant.

I just would like to know your thoughts on this as I said the police are not really at fault they were really good about it and could only act on the facts.

If it helps 3 years ago the same driver was stopped driving my vehicle which was on a fleet policy for no insurance it went to court and was proved that it was insured and was thrown out all his details where checked and this never came up about his licence it seems strange.

I would like to think that the driver is telling the truth as I have known him for so long but I respect the police and trust them as well. I was stopped a few years ago in a VCP and they said that I had no HGV licence, I have been driving for 27 years with no points with every licence you can think of track vehicle, bike, crane, HIAB, HGV1 and a pilots licence which to be fair would not show up but they said sorry they made a mistake.

Anyway help if you can look forward to it.

    Thanks

Police officers are human beings, despite the way some of them behave, and can get things wrong. So can the DVLA, but they've turned cocking things up into an art form.

DVLA need to come up with an explanation and fast. If they can't, then they should put things right, including squaring things up with the police.

I think so too my partner is a police officer so I do understande a bit but I think this needs sorting out and an explanation of why he has been fined if there is no record of an offence then something is wrong and needs correcting ASAP

When they do sort it out they should reimburse the drivers fine and the costs of getting the lorry back aswell as removing the points placed on his license.

I would like to get my £350 back for the lorry recovery and he should get most things sorted but when it comes down to it he should have kept his licence up to date when he moved house and he would have found out about this years ago.

If its a new license the picture must be updated every 10yrs, so if he had the wrong address on the license he would not have received the reminder. This could be a reason?

I remember seeing something about this on Watchdog some time ago. There's loads more, just type "watchdog driving licence" into google and see the many mistakes made by the DVLA.

I think he new about something maybe 3 points or something and did not send his licence in to be updated, but he says he has no idea why the DVLA has taken his licence. In any case if the DVLA have no idea why they revoked his licence and the police don't know then really they should give him his licence back until they can prove something happened. He can't work or drive his car at the moment so we need to get the sorted out one way or another. Thanks.
