  • Car finance purchased in good faith

    Hi all,

Purchased a vehicle not aware it was on finance, in April i was honest with the finance company and told them about the whole situation. After a month of chasing they finally sent me the innocent purchaser forum which I provided proof of everything including all info of the seller. After a few weeks they got back to me explaining that this is now with a solicitors firm and gave me a contact number. Since April till now I have not heard anything, I called the solicitors firm multiple times and was told that do not contact us we will contact you once we hear back. I waited a few months bearing in mind they have been dealing with this for over 5 months. I still haven't heard anything back, I tried contacting them this whole week and only today got returned a call and was told we still have no update and will let you know once we have. Anyone know what I can do? Finance company have said to not contact us and contact the solicitors only. It is really stressing me out and I don't understand what I can do in this situation.

    Thanks

      Hi PEZZA54,

I have already used robs advice but as per my new post since then this has now gone to the solicitors. I am asking for more advice on what I can do now.

The solicitor could still be chasing the previous owner
You could use mycarcheck to find out if the finance marker has been removed

          hello,

I have checked and the marker is still on there, it's been on going for over 8 months now in total, I just feel like it's not going anywhere at all. I don't know how to tell them how much stress this is causing me as it's like they do not even care.

Are you losing out financially? Perhaps you need to sell the car and are unable to do so.
You could make a complaint with the solicitor about the unreasonable amount of time they are taking, and if this doesn't work, refer your complaint to the Legal Ombudsman (possible compensation)

I feel like I am, it feels like I purchased a vehicle that I don't even own. I just keep thinking about the same issue, I'm having a kid soon and ideally needed a more of a practical vehicle so this is also causing a issue for me as I can't sell the car to buy another one. Should I make a complaint with the finance company and solicitor aswell? Or just the solicitor would you say? I have multiple emails with the solicitors company and made many complaints via the phone but no official email complaint.

Just the solicitor. The fc hasn't done anything untoward. They could have tried to repossess the car months ago
