    Is there anything in the company advert or literature that states the insulation adds value to the property as well as reducing heating bills?
    The foam insulation has clearly devalued the property so you may have a claim based on misrepresentation

    Alternatively you could pay for a surveyor's inspection of the loft to see if the report finds any problems caused by the insulation

      Saw this in a news feed today.. Is this your sprayed foam issue Witsend1 ? Posting for general information, it doesn't offer a magic bullet solution I'm afraid.

      That said, the article suggests problems arise when the foam is badly applied, which you don't believe is the situation in your case. I haven't read the new RICS guidance but wonder if there would be any mileage in it for you to appoint your own specialist roof insulation surveyor to survey the insulation and confirm that it is properly installed and complies with latest RICS guidance?And if it is relevant, that they confirm the type of foam that has been used to confirm it isn't a fire risk? Maybe on the state of the roof generally? Then include that in your sale information.

      Don't know if that will work, just thinking aloud on possible ways forward for you.

        Huntsman Building Solutions state on their website "spray foam insulation adds value to your home by providing greater protection" This statement is misleading and has turned out to be untrue
        Even if the insulation company believed their statement to be true at the time, the misrepresentee can still claim against the misrepresentor for damages under innocent misrepresentation

        The last section "Raise a complaint" in the the House of Commons Library article provided in Huxie's post gives valuable info on consumer legislation that a homeowner may claim under

        Does Witsend1 have landlord's legal expenses insurance?

            Please read the article "All you need to know about landlord expenses cover" at alanboswell.com and in particular the paragraph headed "Repair and renovations disputes"
            Find out if the company that sold you the spray foam is still trading. Check your insurance policy and contact the insurance company. Hopefully you are covered for the miss-selling of the product (the insulation has devalued your property and estate agents, surveyors, have advised you to remove it) If you are covered the insurance company may decide to appoint a lawyer on your behalf and pay for all legal costs

                In 1980, I was an undergraduate at North East London Polytechnic. Six of us were campaigning to get foam insulation banned as it contains formaldehyde, which is a serious health risk when used in foam insulation. This insulation was used mainly in wall cavities. If it is disturbed, it will give off a gas that will irritate the eyes, noses, and chests of people in the house or building. As it got older, the foam dropped in the cavity and degraded, giving off an irritant gas. A website exists that, I hope, will be of use to you.
