Hi , I'm new to this site so I hope I'm doing this correctly, seems like the right section for this post.
My daughter was in a flat through a social housing company in Wiltshire ,she has now moved this past weekend to a new place, and she had to hand her keys back by Monday.
She had an email from them saying the keys had to be handed in by 11am, but what with a busy weekend moving she had forgotten this and it was 3pm when she went to hand the keys in.
They have said that because she didn't do it by 11am they are going to charge her a weeks rent £81, there was no notice of any charge or penalty stated on the email so surely, legally they can't just say that they are going to charge her for handing the keys in late they would need to inform her that a late penalty charge is applicable beforehand ?.
Anybody know the actual legal standing on this ?.
Many thanks.
