    Re: Council housing and discrimination

Thank you everyone for your replies.
I have contacted Mind and the equality advisory support service, Mind have not got back to me yet and the EASS have asked me to ask the council for more on the criteria of banding.
The reason why i believe they are being discriminate is because banding is NOT based on your condition it is based on the affect of your housing on it which means a person with a physical condition is not placed in a band because they are disabled or because they are in a wheelchair or because they find steps tricky they are placed in the band because they cant leave their home on their own and need someone to help them which is the same as me a person with a mental health condition, our affect is the same, the outcome is the same yet they are being treated more favorably than me.
The council policy also says that in line with the housing act people who need to move on medical grounds should be given reasonable preference, i have been given a low medical need to move yet i have been given no preference as i and others with a low medical need have been put in the bottom band with people with general needs who will now be in front of those with a medical need to move.
The over 55s only bungalows are for people who are over 55 or those with a medical need to live in one, a person with a physical condition under 55 may be awarded one even though they can live in a bottom floor flat, i have a medical need to move to one as due to my condition i cant live in any flats yet i wont be awarded one.
If the argument for a person who is physically disabled to have a bungalow is because their only choices are ground floor flats and bungalows due to their condition surely i should be treated the same as due to my condition my only choices are houses or bungalows, we are both restricted due to our conditions, their restriction is stairs and mine is having people above or below me which causes me anxiety and according to the disability act i should be classed as disabled just the same as them.
In fact they have a much better chance of getting housed as there are far more bottom floor flats and over 55s bungalows than anything else, not once in the 2 years i have been on the list has a 1 bed house come up.
I am not asking them to treat me more favorably than everyone else on the list i am just asking them to treat my mental health condition as equal to a physical condition that causes the same effect, which they are not doing.
I cant get a blue badge as i do not get the high rate mobility of DLA.

The properties listed today are 2 bungalows for over 55s, 11 ground floor flats for over 55s and 3 flats for anyone.
