  • Child Access Order - Help Required

    Hello everyone.

Last year I obtained a Child Access Order which allowed me to see my son regularly. I've almost completed the contact centre part of the order and the next requirement is to "spend time with him in the local community." Could anyone potentially advise with what "local community" actually means and how far the term stretches? I want to ensure I dont breach the order, and would like to be able to plan days out and activities etc, so if anyone has any experience with this term then please let me know! It seems vague at best. I can always contact the court but thought I would try here first!

Also, my Sons Mother recently took him abroad without my consent (I didnt even know they were away!) for a period of 7 days. In fact, it could be said she actively prevented me finding this out by preventing contact during the holiday. I was told they would have no signal to talk. Is this something that I should raise with either CAFCASS or the Courts? This has irritated me as I am currently not allowed to take him to see his grandparents, due to distance, however he is taken abroad for a week, without my knowledge or consent. We both share parental responsibility before I forget to mention that part!

Currently the access is based in a contact centre and I have advised my ex partner that I think it would be best for grandparents and my new partner of 2 years and her daughter to see him in a safe and secure environment, which is monitored. She currently wont allow this although partner has undergone satisfactory CAFCASS checks. Obviously, I would like to involve them in future activities and dont want any accusations to be made after the contact centre has finished. If anyone has any thoughts on this, then please let me know. It would be appreciated!

    Many thanks,
    K

Local community means in area around his home, so local parks or the town centre closest to his home. In other words not taking him out of the place he knows and is comfortable. Perhaps look at things to do near his home and build some bridges by suggesting to the ex things you'd like to do with him as being in the local community and asking which of them she feels fit that mould, but let her know it is not acceptable to object to them all to be awkward.

Do you really think this would be conducive to getting to a place where the below can happen? Sometimes you just have to let things go for the greater goal.
