Hi Guy's,

I have recently left my trainee dental nurse job, no intention to. I texts my boss about a shift asking him what time he wanted me in and tried phoning him but he never replied. Then I got an email from him saying I take it you no longer want to work for me.

However my main issue -
I am 24 years old and was earning £5.50 per hour, I am not classed as an apprentice I'm classed as a trainee.

Is this pay illegal for my age?

I would appreciate your input so I can report him if it is ilegal

I can't see why you are paid below the minimum wage to be honest...

Depends if you are exempt so are you exempt?

On the above link, scroll down towards the bottom which states exemption to the minimum wage. My concern is "work shadowing" however ultimately I would give ACAS a call tomorrow morning and confirm. On the basic information provided I think they have acted unlawfully and could owe you wages as a result.

I went for an interview for a trainee dental nurse the other day and told the manager the wage I was getting.

He said its illegal he said that I should be on at least 6.70 per hour.

He was horrible to work for to be honest.

So it was kind of a blessing lol

That's fair enough; however, not only should he have been paying the National Minimum Wage for your age band, if he effectively dismissed you, you are also entitled to one-week's payment in lieu of notice, as well as any holidays you would have accrued during your four-month employment.
