    Re: Minimum Wage Issue

So being 24 I should by law be entitled to £6.70 nmw.

He was also paying a girl that worked at the practice who was aged 19 or 20 £6.00 per hour which was £0.50 more then me and i am older.

Up until 30 September 2015 you should have been paid £6.50 per hour. This would have increased on 1 October 2015 to £6.70 per hour.

Do you know what dates you started and finished working for him?

Do you know how many hours you worked each week?

Did you actually get a payslip, or was it just money via BACS?

                  Re: Minimum Wage Issue

You were probably not earning enough to pay tax and NI but it should still show on your payslip ( well, if you had one )

The standard Personal Allowance is £10,600, which is the amount of income you don’t have to pay tax on.
You pay National Insurance if you’re:
                  • 16 or over
                  • an employee earning above £155 a week

                  Report cash in hand pay

Report a business or your employer to HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) if they’re paying workers ‘cash in hand’ without paying Income Tax or National Insurance.
Contact the Tax Evasion Hotline to report tax evasion online or by phone.
For your own safety you shouldn’t:
                  • try to find out more about the fraud
                  • let anyone know you’re making a report
                  • encourage anyone to commit a crime so you can get more information

You risk losing your employment rights and some benefits if you accept cash in hand payments, and may have to pay the tax and National Insurance contributions yourself.

                  9.5hours x3 a week -28.5hrs
so you were earning £156 ish a week ?

Earn £8,112 in 2015/2016 and you'll take home £8,106. This means £675 in your pocket a month.

Over the year you'll pay £0 income tax and £6 in National Insurance.
So you might have to pay the £6 - but it also means your stamp hasn't been being paid for you for earning over £112 a week ( so affects contributory benefits etc )

Plus if you weren't on the books, it is unlikely that other staff are all on the books either.

                    Re: Minimum Wage Issue

And when you have dentists that can't pay their staff the minimum wage and also break the law in regards to TAX, then no wonder people don't trusts dentists. Report him to the General Medical Council as well, as they are the ones that regulate Dentists and have the power to strike him off the register meaning he won't be able to practice dentistry legally, well thats if hes actually registered in the first place!

I have recently left my trainee dental nurse job, no intention to. I texts my boss about a shift asking him what time he wanted me in and tried phoning him but he never replied. Then I got an email from him saying I take it you no longer want to work for me.

                      However my main issue -
I am 24 years old and was earning £5.50 per hour, I am not classed as an apprentice I'm classed as a trainee.

Is this pay illegal for my age?

I would appreciate your input so I can report him if it is ilegal

                      Thanks :-)
                      hello Jade

Were you employed originally as an apprentice - as you say you were a 'trainee dental nurse' - then perhaps did the role change? Was the post advertised initially as a trainee dental nurse or apprentice? What documentation if any did you receive to do with said role? Is the employer registered with the body which regulates dentists? Did he/ she have any letters after their name etc? May I ask why you worked this long as a 24 year old for 4 months if you suspected it was not a genuine apprenticeship? How many people are working there, in your opinion, below the minimum wage? Is this a small company, is there an Human Resources' officer there? Do you have line manager (ie a supervisor)? Not only should you be entitled to any losses in contract payment, you should be able to sue for compensation for other things. I would contact a solicitor if i were you. Are you a member of a trade union?
