• Please help!!

Right guys...I need of help pls! Here's me story....
I was shopping in tesco with my little 2 year ols girl few weeks bk, she was taking things off the shelves and running around like a naughty child. I had things on top of the pram in the seat underneath, I got to the checkout and paid for what I thought was everything, I just wanted to get out...I suffer from panic attacks and I just needed to leave! Couldn't cope anyway, as I grabbed my little angel and went down the esculator I was greeted by 2 security officers and I had forgotten the things in the basket under pushchair!!!! I could have died! I apologised loads and offered to pay but it was a firm NO and into the holding room with myself and child to wait for the police!! On police arrival I have to admit they were great, talked to me and my daughter made her feel at ease after the long, uncomfortable wait!! Listened to me and checked I wasn't a serial shoplifter then told me to be more careful and that was it!! Tesco on the other hand have no forwarded my details to rlp who sent me a letter demanding £147.50 in costs!! How do they get that amount? All goods in sellable condition and a honest mistake! I have 3 kids it's 10 days til Christmas 😯 I haven't got that amount of spare cash....All useful advice would be appreciated, I know I did wrong and I'm dealing with that but whats my nxt step???

Hi belle05 ... welcome to LB!!
I'm a mother myself, and can understand how stressful shopping with children (especially at this time of year hen the shops are crowded)

You say that you were spoken to by the police ... I take it no charges were brought against you at the time? If no charges were brought, then it is the general consensus that these letter from RLP are to be ignored. They have (in my understanding at least) a habit of sending out these 'requests' for payment to those that are more likely to pay (single mums/teenagers etc...) and they ask for ridiculous amounts of money for very little work on their part!

If you can cope with a few more letters from them, then I would definitely suggest just filing it in the bin along ith any others they may send (although if you could post up a copy of it with your personal details removed first - I would like to have a look at it first )

Kati xx

Bailiffs won't come without a court order (and there are ways of dealing with them too - although it won't come to that). I can understand the stress ... and although RLP will more than likely send you a few more letters before they give up, I have never known them actually take someone to court.

Please try not to let this spoil things for you - enjoy Christmas with your children mashappy:
