  • Bit of a strange one?

    Good evening ladies and gents.

I've joined up here after digging for some information online and can only find dribs and drabs.

I'll jump straight in....bare with me here haha.

So my partner rented a portacabin and ran a shop from within it surrounded by a few cabins of the same usage. A selling centre if you will.

Now there were no tenancy agreements on paper the landlord used to take cash payments from her and wrote on a board how much was paid and when etc.

The site lacked footfall and my o/h promoted it through the roof but sadly it wasn't getting the custom and she fell behind on her rent for a period of possibly upto 6 months at £440pcm

In October of 2016 she left the area and set up in a new area
Offering the landlord of the site a monthly payment which he declined.

Fast forward to February this year.

She had a letter from moneyclaim online where he has claimed for £4000 plis charges of 8% a day since she left. She has since responded accordingly on the website saying what she takes what she pays out etc. And offering £30 a month.

Not heard a single thing back and today received a notice of transfer which states she will receive a time and date for a hearing.

Can anyone shed any light on this situation and many many thanks to all replies in advance.

    Hi and welcome.

    To clarify the position:
she rented the facility (no written agreement so no cancellation terms)
She failed to pay the rent for 6 months prior to leaving (so possibly owed £2,640 and landlord refused to accept payment of £440)
Now received claim for £4000 plus interest @ 8% PER DAY (wish I could get that rate!!! sure it's not per annum?)
Appears she might have admitted the debt and offered a repayment schedule which has been declined

Can you post up (first removing identifying details) the claim form and her response to it.
You might then receive some useful advice

This was not the best course of action.
