Re: When they break your perfectly good working car....

So as you have your old keys back you should be able to prove they are genuine and not fake. (follow Chaz's suggestion post13)
I wonder what "proof" they will be advancing that the keys were fake and the cause of all the extra expense.
I am even more convinced they are either bluffing or unaware you have retained the faulty keys.

If you intend to continue with the case, and they do put in a defence and/or counter claim, feel free to return for further assistance in drafting your reply.

      Thanks for this Chaz..

After speaking to another mechanic he said that at their dealership they have a policy of not doing this work unless they have supplied the 2nd key..., which in hindsight makes an awful lot of sense.. He also added that he didn't think it was possible to re-program a key that had already been used previously on another vehicle.... Again, you would have thought the dealer would have known all this...

On top of all of that you would think the manufacturers equipment would not have allowed the mechanic to do all this..., it just doesn't make sense and I wonder if the nut of all of this is that the mechanic actually did the "procedures" wrong and that is how he ended up trashing the original key..?

with out nowing what car you have it is hard to say but only older cars had remotes that had to have the circuit board modified to set it to the right frequency all newer ones it its the ecu on the car the learns the keys freqency there is know way a car can know if that remote is being used on another car.
it is true most machanics would only try to program a new key as they dont have ways to check remote or know how old it is.

there are some locksmiths that also program car remotes we have a local timpsons that can

it does sound more and more like the macanic just didn't know what he was doing.
bottom line keep going and dont givin

just a quick thought if your car happens to be say a megane with a credit card style remote key. then they do have loads of problems with programing keys and i have seen many of them scraped for just that reason as it can result in the hole system neading to be replaced and that can be thousand pound or more it is mainly a fault on early ones later ones much better. if you look on car forums you will find more info
