    I think you're missing the issue there though. The thing here is that it was going to be looked at for 20 euros and then there would be a call before any further work was carried out. This call did not take place, and the OP was charged for work he should have been phoned about to ask whether or not they wanted the work carrying out. :beagle:

      thats quite right labman it sounds great when someone else writes it. and im not going to let it go eighter, i know its only 40 quid but it was the cheek of him when i was demanding mt laptop back

        In contract law, a contract is only valid is it is unequivocally agreed to either verbally or in writing. In this case you did not agree to them carry out the repairs but merely to look at the computer for a sum of 20 euros. So I'd say this was a breach of contract by the repair shop, who took it upon themselves to carry out repair work without authorization under contract to do so. Though am not sure if the law would be the same in Ireland as in the UK, but i assume it is given contract law is largely internationally the same in the western world.
