    Good day
I have an issue with a bathroom place I did 1 job for and need advice, I was approached to do a bathroom for a company which I accepted the invite, after 3 days I realised the guy was not what he seemed and his customer care was non existent and poor products, I approached him regarding my concerns and was basically told to lie to his customer,, so I decided to part company there and then. I received a solicitors letter claiming 1500£ yesterday for damages that are completely made up,, and part was a 750£ cash payment. Never happened !
the facts are: he was a vat registered company doing the above job for cash and not declaring it. He claims he paid me cash. We had no contract, no receipts, no payment details as he was evading the vat man .. his client was a customs and excise agent who paid cash agreeing to not pay the vat also..
My morals made me walk and I'm out of pocket but he wants 1500£ off me .. where do I stand please.. thank you in advance and enjoy your day .

    Hi and welcome

As I see it you have two choices
    1) ignore until they initiate court action
    2) write to solicitor disputing his clients allegations and begin a game of letter tennis.
With nothing in writing they will have problems proving anything.

You could also report the VAT fraud if you weren't complicit (anonymously if you want) (https://www.gov.uk/report-vat-fraud)
HMRC caution against letting anyone know you are intending to make the report

If you choose option 2 refer to everything as "alleged" and admit nothing.
