Widows pension

This is for a friend .
He has just been widowed and can claim widows pension on top of other benefits is the pension taken off the total of the other benefits when the DWP calculate their needs will it add to or reduce ESA and other payments.

Now called Bereavement Allowance Wales as I understand it one must contact the Pension Service and or the WP to make application.
