:tinysmile_cry_t:Hi All. i would like some Advice please..At the moment I am receiving Eye Injections for a
Retina Condition.
I gave my consent for the Drug Lucentis.signed a Consent Form for the same..
I have since found out that this Drug was
substituted for another Drug used for the same
purpose..I was not given the Choice at the time
as to whether I wanted it or not.
I have reasearched the Substitute Drug & find
that given the choice I would have refused its use.. Can you Advise me.As to where I stand on this(Malpractice??)

What exactly is it about the substitute that makes it unacceptable? Side effects? An ethical or moral issue? Is there anything at all on the consent form that allows them to do 'other things'?

First, The two drugs serve the same purpose..so that is not the issue here,.
Lucentis is NICE Licensed for Macular edema.This was the Drug of my choice.
Avastin the Drug in Question is unlicensed(Off Label) & as had
Issues with Contamination in the past,.Causing Blindness.
You Ask if my gripe is Ethical or Moral,, well in a Nutshell
its more a trust issue..
I want to beable to discuss my options not have the
choices made for me..I may Add I am fully Competent
to make my own decissions...
Lastly; The Form is A Dept of Health Form. Consent Form 3.
Name of Procedure; Course of Intravitereal Injections. Lucentis Injection..
No mention on Form of Substitute Drug or Procedure.

Make a formal complaint, citing (1) that the consent specified Lucentis, (2) that there was no consultation about switching drugs (arguably a breach of the NHS Constitution). Make it clear that you have well founded concerns about the safety record of the drug in question.

No problem - I don't feel I know enough about it. I know very little about malpractice. I Googled this and came up with nothing recent which was definitive, only something from 2010 about four LHA's using it which were being investigated.

The issue appears to be not so much with the drug itself but rather with the syringes becoming contaminated during the administration process somehow from what I glean reading.

Hope this explains and apologies for not feeling I could do more. :beagle:
