Government urges benefit audit - MoneySavingExpert News

A couple weeks ago I FINALLY managed to get my ex to pay half my rent for me so thought I'd be good and let the DWP know.

Now I'm looking at losing all my income support because they have noticed that they 'fiddled' their own figures to enable me to have some in the first place.

I get £40 a week income support at the moment, because they calculated my equity in my house (which my ex lives in) to be 11k, so its sanctioned down from £64, but I don't get housing benefit because the council valued my house higher and calculated my equity to be just over 16k.

So when I phoned DWP to tell them ex had agreed to pay half my rent (£200) they had a flid about why was he paying my rent when I should get housing benefit and now they are going to use the councils valuation and remove my £40 a week.

I don't get child maintenance off ex apart from this new £200 a month, I dont' get council tax benefit or housing beneift. I guess I am better off as I don't have to find the £200 a month but it just feels so bloody unfair, they also want to reclaim all the IS from the last 2 years from me because it was paid in error apparently.

And no ex won't sell the house have been trying for over a year.

So yep, well glad I told them.

Know how you feel. When my ex wife decided the grass was greener etc over five years ago she left me with the two kids and hatful of debt. Since that time I have tried without success to get support through the Child Support Agency. I know exactly what it is like to speak to a Govt. monster, sorry department. I have got absolutely nowhere. its like talking to a brick wall eh.

I am in the same position and it is so bloody hard have spoken to them have written to them and no luck have had to go for two medicals as I cannot work at the moment and they still think I should not be paid anything. and expect me to go back to work this month I haven't even had my operation yet even their own doctor was flabbergasted at their recommendations about returning to work.

No much wonder the country is in the state it is eh.
