I recently lost my job, I was dismissed for gross misconduct. I appealed and received the outcome yesterday, it was not upheld so I am now unemployed with a GM on my record. I was at my company for 5 years so it isnt something I can just delete from my CV - so I feel Ive got a tough time ahead.
I am obviously in a state of panic and distress and I have a few queries re benefits.
I am aware I will likely be sanctioned if I apply for Universal Credit and JSA. My question is, does the sanction begin running from the time you apply OR is it calculated from the date of the dismissal?
The reason I ask is I might not apply for any state benefit straight away as luckily I have some savings and I don't want to be put under pressure on their terms with looking for a new job just yet. But, if the sanction runs from the time you first apply I might need to factor this into my decision making.
Hope that make sense, if not let me know!
