    Re: Benefit overpayment

It sounds like you might need some practical help dealing with this, as it is over a long period and complicated. I would see if you can both get an appointment at a Citizens Advice office, explain it is about historical benefits overpayments and that you've had contact from Rundles. Take all the paperwork you have with you and someone should be able to look over it and outline what your options are.

It could be Child Tax Credit although that would be HMRC chasing overpayment not DWP. DWP would be income support. The Council would be Housing Benefit.

It may have been combined together in joint names because their argument was she was overpaid because you were a couple.

( oops sorry should have refreshed before typing - yes send to Kati if you possibly can )

CAB are ok for general support/advice ... be aware that their 'advisors' do not generally specialise (so advice varies from branch to branch ) xx

Is the first letter attached from the DWP? As I notice the options are Attachment of earning order (which they no longer need to go court for) and the use of the DCA.

I think you really need those SAR's (no fee to be paid to the DWP) Send these to DWP debt management centre which sent the letters.

I've found that a SAR somewhat slows the DMC's down quite a lot.

also for your own use only do a detailed income/expenditure calculation it may prove useful later.

I do not think the DWP charge for SARs but normally you pay by cheque or postal order.

I know when I sent them a SAR there was no fee

As Warwick says ... The DWP do not charge for sar requests. All you need to do is send it
