    Hi and welcome

From what I can remember if you hear nothing from the bank by 8 weeks, you then contact the Adjudicator who dealt with your complaint, who usually chases this up for you.
From what I understand the adjudicator will already be aware of what the bank should pay you, as they too will receive details of the calculations from the bank.

I think the Adjudicator will give the bank a week or so, but the interest will add up, so assume the bank will want to deal with your complaint within the timescale. Any problem though, do let the FOS/adjudicator know.

However, I am at the understanding that the decision made by the adjudicator is sent to yourself and the bank, and if the bank still does not accept the complaint, the complaint will usually be forwarded on to the main ombudsman for review, where they highly likely to agree with the adjudicators decision anyway, and if it did end up going this far, you should be awarded further redress for the distress and inconvenience.

    Hope this helps, well done

Hi there it does help that you have kept statements, because that will help in regards of it being an old account, I do also think it's worth a go.

In regards of reclaiming PPI, keep it separate to that of charges. I take it you mean bank charges?

Will pop back here at some point over the weekend and post up some links for you, and the complaint questionnaire for PPI etc (my computer is running slow tonight) lol.

Hi Skips. Turboman and I usually do the PPI figures, so I'll see if I/we can help. With loan 1, we still need a little more info, I'm afraid. Can you answer the following:-

What were the monthly repayments ? My guess is £237.54.
How many repayments did you make ? My guess is 39.
When the loan was consolidated into loan 2, what amount was needed to settle loan 1 ?
Can you scan and post a redacted copy of the closing (settlement) statement for loan 1 ?
If not, was there anything called 'PPI Rebate' or 'Insurance Rebate' - or similar - in the closing (settlement) statement for loan 1 ?

We can then put this info into spreadsheet/calculator program to check the figures. We will then also need this info for loans 2 & 3. If you can supply that, we should be able to give you an idea of what to expect as a claim settlement offer.

Hi Tululia - and a belated welcome to you. I was as nervous as you when I first started posting in a forum 6 years ago, but you'll soon get the hang of it. We are all here as amateurs, and we try and advise people from our own experience - as opposed to giving professionally-qualified legal advice (that's why our advice is free !!!) But we each have our own skills, and there are members here who are VERY skilled in legal matters. Well done for having the determination to get your money back. We help each other here, and can usually help with writing letters that will get the lenders' attention, instead of getting you ignored or 'fobbed off' by them. Me - I just try and deal with the figures and calculations, but PPI is something I have some experience of, and I often work alongside Di30 and Turboman with PPI claims.

What you need to do now is to start your own 'Thread,' which is a string of messages like this (called 'posts'). This will give you your own special space, where we can deal with your claim, and it prevents us all getting confused with different matters. If you click on the link below, it should take you to the PPI claims area. Start a new 'Thread' there, and give it a title (for example, "Northern Rock PPI") - In the opening 'Post,' briefly tell your story with Northern Rock. You should then get some further 'Posts' replying to you - and we can "Rock on" from there !!!

                        Re: ppi

Not silly at all, Skips - we are constantly being advised to shred our financial documents to avoid being scammed by fraudsters. Personally, I think we should store them safely and securely, and only shred them if we are finally getting rid of them. Without all of the figures, we can't do an exact calculation, but we can possibly do an approximation. Are you able to scan and post redacted copies of your 3 loan agreements ? If you can do this, then we may be able to get some idea of what you should expect as a settlement offer.

If you are prepared to invest £10, however, you can send Halifax a 'Data Subject Access Request,' which should get you ALL of the data which Halifax hold on you, going back at least 6 years. This should include ALL account statements, and should enable us to determine a more accurate figure.

A further point I should make is that a rebate of a portion of the original PPI premium is usually made at the time when a loan is settled and/or consolidated into a subsequent loan. Therefore, the original PPI premium may NOT be reclaimable in full, as a part of it may well have been included in the settlement of the earlier loan(s). This can confuse claimants, and I personally think it should be made clearer in the settlement offers. This is why the closing/settlement account statements are useful, as they will usually show this.
