I have a slightly strange PPI compliant with Halifax over mortgage protection.
Basically my ex partner and I took out PPI with the Halifax in Apr 2006. We set up direct debits so that both the mortgage and ppi would be paid out of my bank account for both people and then my ex partner had a direct debit for half of the amount into my account.
We spilt up in Mar 2007 and I took on the full mortgage myself after several meetings with my mortgage advisor at no point did the advisor suggest that I readjust the ppi cover to just have me on it.
Having been made redundant at the same time as taking on the mortgage myself and then starting a new job a couple of weeks later and the stress of dealing with getting re-mortgaged I didn't really think any more about changing the cover.
I realise that in the main part I am culpable for not looking into this before but I also believe that Halifax should have contacted me as well as they were taking money out from my account for both people whilst I was the only person on the mortgage therefore only needed coverage for one person. I sent in a complaint back in the middle of 2012 after researching all my ppi's. Claiming back half of the amount paid over the 5 years. They eventually came back to me last week after I had to send a chasing email to the chief exec of Halifax/ Lloyds tsb.
They stated in the letter that my ex-partner would have had to contact them to remove her now seeming as we weren't on speaking terms couldn't have happened.
The crux of this posting is that they have now offered me a cheque for £150 to resolve the complaint. To me this is admitting that they are guilty in some way of mis-selling the ppi.
Can anyone offer any advice on this as I'm not really ready to accept £150 when I do believe I am entitled to more. Do you think I should take this any further and request this to be looked at again or do you think my claim falls on deaf ears.
Thanks in advance for any constructive advice you can give. I have posted this in another forum but thought I would garner advice from other areas as well.
