My wife raised a PPI claim on an inactive suspended HSBC mastercard account in June of this year (2011).
She's just received an offer of £4124 based on premiums and interest thereon. The card account concerned has been the subject of correspondence and many telephone calls from MCS for almost two years, and a payment arrangement has been in place for most of that time. HSBC are advising that the amount of the offer must be paid in full off the outstanding debt.
Two questions :
1. Can they do this ?
2. There are appears to be a discrepancy in the amount that HSBC quote as the outstanding amount (£7065) and a lower figure quoted by MCS in a telephone conversation around the date the PPI claim was submitted. How can we discover which figure is correct ??
