  • Bank of Ireland SAR wierdness (or Tactics?....)

    So,

recently (over 40 days ago) SAR'd BoI

Sent an email to their customer services last weekend requesting they look into the fact I had not received the data yet

Then on Wednesday had a "return to sender" envelope from the royal mail, containing the SAR request

First thing that struck me as odd was the request went to a BoI address in Reading, yet the Royal Mail "return to sender" undeliverable address was in Tipperary (for the postal system to return it to if the Royal Mail return didnt get to me)

Thought that was odd, but put it down to some odd quirk in the postal systems

Until, that is, looking at my online banking today I realise that Bank of Ireland actually cashed the SAR cheque I sent them!

So, the way it looks it is "possible" that they "may" have passed the SAR from the Reading office to Ireland, decided they couldnt be arsed to providde the details and then put it as "return to sender" to the royal mail, whilst forgetting that somebody along the way cashed the cheque for the SAR request

I mean obviously I realise that such a respected institution as a bank would never do anything like this on purpose, but I'm sat here pondering the best way to approach this?

    ICO?

Call BoI and ask if they wouldnt mind, ever so pretty please, explaining what happened?

It depends on how quickly you need your SAR information. If you don't mind waiting, then complain to the ICO.

Otherwise, send them an LBA and then sue them.
