  • Barclaycard and Barclays Bank

    Hi,

First post, been lurking anonymously for a while now, and find the site useful, so thank you. I have got a quick query on PPI reclaiming when in arrears.

I understand it that if you had a loan that you can look to reclaim the PPI on and it is already paid up, if you also have a current debt with the same lender that is in arrears the PPI claimed will first go to clear those arrears.

Now if the debts are with Barclaycard and Barclays as they are seperate companies within the group the ppi would be paid to the client and not paid to clear the arrears first.

Does anyone know if this is correct?

        Hiya and welcome

        Cheers Turbo

Yes you can still make a reclaim if settled or still active, and if in arrears the award is normally paid towards the debt, anything remaining plus interest is normally awarded directly to you.
However, I will state though, we had a few loan ppi's with Lloyds TSB and they did refund the money directly to us on the accounts that have already been paid off, the other still running and was in arrears which was also reclaimed on they refunded the redress towards that debt, and we received the interest in a lump sum.

So it maybe a case that on the settled ones you will receive them directly to you.

Also ask if you would like some help on the reclaiming side of it to, like who to and how etc, unless your already aware of how you do this, but if you have any figures you would like to post up, please feel free to do so, Turbo and Bilk will surely check them out for you.

Thanks for posting back so soon. It was a question specific to Barclays really for a someone else. I point people to the MSE forum for templates for registering a complaint, there's loads of info there.

Just would be interested to see if the two companies talk to each other, having thought about it you'd have thought Lloyds and HBOS would do the same or would that breach DPA?

I am not sure on that one to be honest, maybe someone else will know, but I also post over at MSE, the template letter is now a questionnaire issued by the FOS in order to make a complaint as you know to the business.

There are links on this site too which may help....

Ta, I asked the same question, albeit abreviated on the MSE forum, I think you replied to that too.

Hopefully someone may have experience with Barclays and let me know. Otherwise I'll post up the response if we get one.
