  • Ifonic claims - taken £990 from my bank account

Posted on behalf of new user

I received a call from ifonic claims in october and was told that they do ppi claim on my behalf free of cost and took my card details. then have taken 990 pounds from my bank account. I haven't seen it for next 14 days. Later I asked them return my money as they assured me they are not going to take any money. But they rejected and told they could have refunded me if I have asked in first 14 days. Recently I came to know that its a fraud company and they are banned from telemarketing. I request you please advise me how can i get money back. Many thanks.

S.75 refund from your credit card, they took the money without your consent and you have not received a service.

Have you signed any contract with them?

Have you received any documentation from them?

I would also report the to the MOJ/TS as it is against the rules to cold call and take money first without having signed documents.

I have just copied this post from CAG, this is the same case here. Cliff Stanford. The thread I found was on the CAG forum and in case it gets lifted I have copied the response from the owner of Ifonic.. Also he was the founder of Demon internet where he became a millionaire. A news article from the BBC http://www.google.co.uk/url?sa=t&rct...60983673,d.bGQ +this article ( he is an Essex boy)http://www.zdnet.com/cliff-stanford-...er-3039218597/

I am Cliff Stanford, managing director of Cerys-Angharad Limited which trades as Ifonic Claims. I'd like to take a moment to clarify this situation for the other members of this forum.

Yesterday, a gentleman under the pseudonym of [EDIT] began posting untruths and defamatory comments about our company, both on social media and via open email. Attempts to discuss the situation with Mr [EDIT] directly led to further public postings with derisive comments and threats.

I think it may be useful to make the following comments:
•We are a regulated claims management company with a good relationship with the MoJ. All calls are monitored and recorded. If a complaint had been made, either to us or the MoJ, the call would have immediately been checked to ensure that no undue pressure was applied. If the call was not correctly handled, the agent in question would no longer have a job. We take our reputation very seriously.
•Any customer can cancel an order within 14 days of signing the contract, without having to discuss, argue or even give a reason. These cancellations are always honoured by our company.
•Our customer services team is run from our Swansea office and they would never make fun of a customer.
•When your mother-in-law phoned, she was asked for further information about the transaction. She would never have been treated with derision.
•It seems unlikely that any UK bank would refuse a charge-back because a staff member was on holidayicon. Royal Bank of Scotlandicon is currently the second most-complained about company for PPI mis-sellingicon. I am sure they would be more than happy to put the charge-back through immediately if they had been contacted.

        This is good advice.

Although Ifonic had conditions placed on their MOJ authorization it appears that they are contesting them. I would advise the OP to speak directly to the MOJ compliance officer for Ifonic as they will be interested in obtaining evidence of non-compliant behavior which may also assist the OP in getting their money back.

I've asked MOJ for the compliance officer's contact details and will post them up when I get them.

So the case on CAG is a different to the one quoted here which shows that we will find more than two cases that come to light in due course. The only similarity is the £990 upfront fee taken without the person giving their express permission or having signed the documentation.

The MOJ rules quite clearly state that they are NOT allowed to take the money upfront until they have the signed documentation back. They are quite clearly breaking the rules in this case and in the case on CAG, despite what Mr Stanford says that he has good relations with the MOJ.

I must have said this thousands of times, DO NOT GIVE CREDIT CARD DETAILS to a cold caller EVER.

Yes indeed, that regulation came into effect on 8 July 2013 so well before the OP was contacted.

I've had a reply from MOJ so I'll e-mail it to you to forward to the OP.
